Smoking looks cool (On tv, without the smoke or smell)
What isn't cool is sitting in a hospital bed for a minimum of 6 months, having needles stuck in your spine while you're fully awake, chest-tubes, lumbar punctures, more mouth ulcers than teeth, losing your hair and around 30% of your muscle and being sick every single day. And thats if you're lucky and actually recover. In which case you'll have to spend the next 18 months rebuilding your life with little immune system, constant colds and viruses, major depression (if you're unlucky) and the knowledge that it'll almost certainly come back and kill you at some point in the future.
But then again you could look cool...
