Let me explain myself. There will be 3 major home consoles being played around the world by the end of next year. The Playstation 2, Gamecube and X-box. Any game boffin will tell you it'll be the PS2 and X-box grabbing the sales with Nintendo moping up what's left. Major PC magazines agree with this statement, when referring to consoles they placed PC first, PS2 second and X-box third and throughout the article the Gamecube was not mentioned once! Is this because the Gamecube is not significant enough to worth mentioning ("yes" yells Bonus from the back)?
All of the above is wrong how will the Gamecube mop up what's left when it is the only one of its type in the market? Confused? Good youíre supposed to be and now Iíll shed light on what I'm trying to say. What is a PC? A piece of Media format right? Ok then what type of Media system? You have the Internet, you can play movies, listen to music, write in fact the PC is more than just a Media system it is a Multi-Media Format.
What is a Media Format? Well a DVD player is a Media system as a DVD is a media format a CD player is a Media system as it plays CD's which is a Media format. Now lets take the PS2 now for starters it plays games, it also plays music and video as well as allowing people to surf the net, in fact much like a PC, which is why PC magazines can compare the two and the PS2 is therefore a Media system. The X-box is basically the same a media system with the emphasis on gaming. The Gamecube is also in this "Multi-Media" market with the help of good friends Panasonic with their DVD/CD playing Gamecube.
But the Gamecube isn't just a multi-media system the main Gamecube system is a games console, a single media system the last surviving games console. Lets step back and look at the position Nintendo hold not only are they in control of the game market they have also invaded the multi-media market thanks to Panasonic. Now I know that many gamers will settle with a multi-media system and leave the gaming market but just remember many just want to play games.
Dringo
RE1,2,3 and CV will be in japan on GC by end of 2002.
The truth is Shinji Mikami lost two programmers cus they couldn't get their head round the PS2's naff middleware and gave up. Devil May Cry is an evolved version of what was supposed to be Resident Evil 4, the second attempt flopped as i've said above, The gamecube version is now on hold due to technical problems, D'oh :-(
I still don't know if they're stickin to their plan of remake, zero, ports, four but it'll be a fair while anyhow.
haha res evil on the gamecube, still can't get over that, It's like selling pokemon to PS2 owners :-)
"The problem with Sony adn the PS2 is that the market is so competetive it is all about having the best graphics, the fastest moving polygons the best sound etc... whilst the Gamecube is a console aimed at fun as miyamoto said we have gone as far as we need where graphics are concerened it is time to go back and concentrate on producing FUN games putting all our efforts into the gameplay. This idea appeals to me although Nintendo's idea of fun might of gone a bit too far with their purple toy box."

That's what Capcom have done with their Resident Evil series, by concentrating on the Gamecube.

As for taking what i said seriously hahahahahaha although the PS2 is officially a multi media format and nintendo isn't so in THEORY Nintendo are the only GAMES console.
Actually, I MAY get one if I have enough money and there are a few games I like the sound of. Racers are a necessity.
Despite this little joke by Dringo being silly, it was funny watching all your hot tempered reactions! :-D
There's one real problem with a DVD + Console machine, aside for the extra cost, the fact that it's not quite as good as a standalone DVD player in, is:
People might already have a DVD player and they're being forced to pay extra for an inferior one.
Secondly, when the PS2 gets outdated, do you want to pay extra for ANOTHER DVD player on the PS3.
Anyway, Nintendo win either way.
If you're going by "Strictly console" then it's the only won. It wins by default.
If you're not going by strictly console then the GBA can be included too (it's no different from the other's only it's small and has a little screen). This little baby outsells all of the big machines!
Nintendo win again.
SO THERE! ;-P
Seriously though, I think that the Nintendo has a neat sewn up little future.
It might not be everyone's first choice but it's almost everyone's second choice...
Think about it, if you compare a PS2 ir Xbox to a Gamecube, the argument dissolves from which on is better to which one suits your style.
The Gamecube is the fun four player machine with a few serious games but it's mainly emphasised on fun.
Devellopers reflect this by adding extra multiplayer extra's into the games.
Even Resident Evil is supposed to be getting a multiplayer when released on this little black/purple/orange/well you get the idea, box.
People who want more serious solo based games might find themselves prefering the Xbox or PS2.
However, the Xbox and PS2 comparations aren't down to different styles, it's a case of who's best.
The PS2 has the lower price, a larger catalogue and a fair user base already.
The Xbox on the other hand has more power and is easier to devellop for allowing it's games to release more potential.
Other than that, they're far too similar to get both.
They both have DVD, a hardrive, the same style of adult solo games (with a few multiplayers as a side dish), and generally a more serious atmosphere with the odd game trying to be the "Nintendo style alternative" for that system.
So if you've already got an Xbox or a PS2, what other console would you buy?
It ought to be the Gamecube because it fills in all the gaps that the other two consoles lack.
Not everyone will be buying two consoles, infact many at all, but along side all those die hard Nintendo fans:
PS2 fans such as:
Wookie will be getting one, although he doesn't like the idea of it making him a "Ninty".
ResidentEvilFan will be getting one for his favourite Capcom series as well as one or two other neat game that passes his way.
Turbonutter wold be considering it if he didn't hate those "Damn Nintys!" so much (he might get one and not tell us about it!)
Even Bonus is sort of toying with the idea, liking the looks of a few games such as Pikmin.
If anyone is a big fan of 4 player splitscreen then it's almost certain that they'll be getting a Gamecube for the multiplayer alone.
Now all Nintendo need to do is release a major Game Boy Advance game that EVERY GBA owner will get.
In it, they'll be repeatedly told (in a not very obvious way), that the Gamecube is the best console around to get.
Imagine how many casual gamers that would indoctrinate...
It would make the PS2's marketing look wafer thin...

That's opinion based. Considering that the PS2 is now the same price

By the time the GC is released here, the PS2 will have over

I didn't say that either was better, just that the GAMECUBE has better qualities than the PS2, which, in my opinion, is correct.
Nobody makes the types of games I want to play for the Playstation, or the XBox, so, to get the games that I feel are of the best quality I will have to get a GAMECUBE.
And if anyone doesn't believe me then I suggest that they purchase all consoles and games for me, and observe to see just which console, and games I enjoy most.
