Getting subscription for birthday.
That is all.
Which isn't so good.

Up to you really, both of those.
Not Edge.
NGC is the best, and Edge is good, just a little overly clinical for my liking.
Therefore, I suggest GamesTM. It's just as well written as Edge, but the articles are much more interesting, they have a broader news section, and more previews and reviews. There's also a dedicated retro section each month, and I haven't been disappointed with an issue ever since the first. 180 pages of pure, unrivalled gaming journalism - the best magazine I've ever read. Bloody cheap too - £24 for a year's subscription.
If you've set your heart on a GameCube magazine though, I suppose NGC are pretty good. Their reviews are far too long, and their news isn't too good but apart from that they're a decent publication (certainly better than NOM, CUBE and G-FORCE) with some decent free gifts. I have to say I disagree with a fair few of the review scores however, unlike GamesTM who seem to constantly hit the mark :D.
Although which one's getting the demo disc? Or is that not happening anymore ..?
I'm so confused.

Yes, I know that should be 'bored' not 'board.
I've just come home from work, so don't expect perfect English from me.
NGC do their fair share of analysing, but overall describe the game, not 'why' the game, without giving too much away. They even give their opinions, which they don't claim have to be followed religiously, either.
I find the majority of reviews NGC print have honest truth in them, and I reckon the majority of games on the GameCube only deserve around 70%. There's nothing set in stone saying that a certain percentage of games should get a high score. If the games are only average, then give them a score that represents that.
My conclusion is that NGC is the better magazine.

Well if you actually read Edge - especially the one with Half Life 2 on the cover-, or understood it maybe, you'd know that Edge offers opinion. They aren't saying that their opinion is the only one, simply that it is their opinion.
Use your example of the English teachers. The whole point of English, and English Literature, is that learning about the subject means you can enjoy what you read and broaden what you read, give you new perspectives and ideas you would not have thought about yourself, challenge what you assume and think about a text.
Same goes for Edge and how they approach the industry.
Take the average Shakespeare play, say Hamlet. "Alas poor Yorrick I knew him well" and all that.
Notice anything, anyone ? If you do it's a fair bet you had to learn about it from somewhere. And then there are the actual plays themselves, unless you have studied them you only see the basic meanings.
Same goes for games. If you can see how they work and why then you'll enjoy them more and be more able to find those you like, and you might even change your mind about certain types.

Mine was a stupid example.
I just like to know why things happen.
The answer is yes.
Why don't you try asking an even stupidier question, like 'Will we still watch TV in 10 years'.
Best for Gamecube - NGC
Sorted.
