Now I have yet to meet any girl/woman who is interested in games. It does seem to be a more male pastime. Although I know there are plenty of female gamers out there.

So is there any reason that men are interested in games? Well if a study was done I imagine it would be found that the male brain it better designed for gaming.

So what would make you good at video games? Well fast reflexes are good and will be needed to complete many games. A mind that can figure out puzzles and clues and can think in 3D. When I say ìthink in 3Dî I mean be aware of the environment that their characture is exploring and be able to work out if they can jump/climb/fly to a certain area.

Now different people are better at different games. The people with the fast reflexs are often better at shoot-em-ups or beat-em-ups. The logical people are better at RPG puzzle solving. The people who can ìthonk in 3Dî are better at plat formers.

So is there a difference between sexes. Well I imagine that a lot of shooting games are designed with men/boys in mind. This is one reason why there are a lot of female lead characters (Lara Croft, Joanna Dark etc). Obviously a lot of guys are not going to want to play as some macho hunk character but would be happy to play as a woman. Especially if she is good looking.

Now I canít say much about what women would like in games seeing as how I am a guy with no sisters. I have, however 2 friends who have older sisters (around 17) and I know that both of them would never dream of playing Perfect Dark or Tombraider.

So is gaming predominantly a male thing? Is it a way for guys to show how cool/strong they are. Well no. To be good at a game you need a good brain and strong fingers (most of the time). Also a lot of games are played on your own, or, if they are played with other people you often canít even see each other (online).

So gaming isnít really a way for men to show of to each other. So why do we do it? Well the reason for that is that it is fun. However how can a lot of games be classed as ìfunî.

Is shooting people heads off ìfunî? Even though its in a game you are shooting off the head of someone who looks very human. Violence is not fun unless it is in a videogame.

What about platform games? You move a character round and hit things and free someone after killing the boss at the end. How is this fun?

Well the reason is that in video games you can do anything. In real life most people will never fly an F18 or join the SAS and free hostages.

Most people wonít be secret agents or race Formula 1 cars. So gaming basically give you freedom, freedom to do things that you could never normally do.

That is why games are so enjoyable (from a male perspective) and also partially explains why men play games more than women.

Women are less likely to want to join the SAS and race fast cars and blow things up.

Gaming allows men to do these things in the comfort of their own home with no destruction apart from a few packets of Pringles.

The very fact that he posted this suggests to the contrary. But still... girls rule at tetris!

No disrespect to Mystique or any other female gamers on here cause i'm sure this isn't the case with any of them.

But the only girl i've ever met who properly played computer games, was my mates sister and lets just put it this way she never left her bedroom and she was anything but a preety picture.
