Update - WINNERS FINALLY ANNOUNCED!

Hoorah! I got a break in my hectic schedule to finally pick the winners of this blasted competition! Yes, I said winners as in plural, because the entries were so dern good I couldn't pick just one. The winners are...

Chad Niga - for his impressive PDA-style Portable PlayStation, plus collection of natty skins
http://www.hostultra.com/~phatboy/PSPDesign2.jpg
(skins at http://www.hostultra.com/~phatboy/Skin1.jpg 2/3/4/5)

and...

TGMBloke - for his frankly bonkers 'Old Man introuding PSP' flash movie. Quite disturbing, but it made me smile and it's obvious some effort went into it.

Well done boys, you both win the game of your choice up to the value of £50. Thanks again for all our entries, we may even send them off to Sony! Or, we may put them in a big sack and drive them off a cliff, who knows? Cheers!

---------------------------------------

Okay, seeing as the Mascot competition is over and we're not starting another major Extra GAD until the beginning of July (when the new magazine hits), I thought I'd set a mini competition until the end of the month.

All I want you to do is mock up a design of what you think the Sony PSP will look like. If you're none the wiser, have a look at the link below to look at the initial specs - it's a brand new Sony handheld (called the PlayStation Portable) in the works, and it's gonna be wicked. I just wanna see what the twisted brain-wrongs of you lot can belch out onto the page.

http://special.reserve.co.uk/news/story.php?id=2599

Draw 'em in pencil, pen, Photoshop, Paintshop Pro... whatever. Just post your entries in this thread if you can, or send them to the normal competitions e-mail address (this is not a postal competition).

You have until midnight June 30th to scribble your entries, so hop to it, there's not much time! The winner will receive a game of their choice, up to the value of £50. Now fly my pretties, fly!

Im not going to argue with you, but just think about it, you arnt going to have the screen stretch to fit the whole screen, you have it in a small square and then you have the controls under it...to dumb it down for you..like windows media player...hmm...hard to think about it, isnt it?
Are you really that perfetic that you call turning a console, that could fit in your palm, exercise?
It's not hard to turn something round, its not going to ruin your view of the screen, the turning process would take less then a second, in fact it would be the same as you blinking.

The fact that it has a tall screen mode is that it gives more space to make things on the screen more presentable...that's why PDA's are also tallscreen.....think....PLEASE!!

P.s. Have you done a design?...Think about that before critisicing others

I'd like to know how turning it around somehow expands it's size. There can't possibly be any more room on the screen.

Yes, YOU do have to think about it a bit more. Nice and interesting idea, but pretty much it is just there for the sake of being there. No real purpose.

It would be annoying at the beginning and end of the movie regardless of the length. For example: you have the screen horizontal to play a game. You stop. You press a button (or whatever it would be) to flip the screen and access other media (see above if you're about to be pedantc). The movie comes on. You flip the thing round AGAIN to watch it.

POINTLESS EXERCISE.

I really didn't mean to have a go at you, but if you can't even see it's uselessness then I will.

It asked for a design, not a working, fully functional model of a Sony PSP, you just have to think about it abit more.

P.s. Before you say "blah blah, it will be annoying turning round all the time" Unless you watch a movie a couple of seconds long its not really going to get 'annoying'. And to turn something round that will fit into your palm isnt going to be a difficult task any way...

*pratt

I did read, and you said other media. You wouldn't want to watch a video on a tall screen, would you? No.

I wouldnt say that, im sure SR will have to take into consideration the fact that not everyone has £200 image software.

Yeh, but once again, when the screen is in the 'tall screen' mode you use the touch screen with the pen, so the buttons arnt in use...
And the only time you use the 'tall screen' mode is to play music and videos, unless you want to play a game then a video every 5 seconds then i dont think it will be 'annoying'

He has a valid point. You both do. Indeed, many multimedia machines (ie Ipod, PDA) have 'tallscreen's but the buttons are indeed in a weird position and constantly turning the thing around would get annoying.

Im just thanking everyone who says they like my idea... but then i read this, im not just being big headed about my design being flawless but that was a damn stupid thing to say..
Number 1: It says that no actual design specifications have been released, so why cant it have a tall screen mode?!?!

Number 2: Havent you ever seen a PDA!?!?!?! They all have tall screen displays!!

Number 3: If you read the specs it says: Interactive touch screen display, for when it is rotated...

So im just saying...Please read things before critising!! Because you only look a prat.
