19:24 The console war of words upped a couple of notches this week, as top brass from all sides took to the stage to give their own rallying cries at the first Annual ELSPA Games Summit in London.
Microsoft was represented by corporate VP for retail sales and marketing Peter Moore, who gave a keynote address earlier today, outlining Microsoft's longterm direction for Xbox.
And comments made by former Sega of America President Moore to us recently provide a crystal clear account of why the company believes its strategy is the best way forward. Asked if Microsoft was planning its own entry into handheld gaming, following the revelation of the PlayStation Portable at E3, Moore told us: "We're not in that business and there are no plans to be in that business right now."
Explaining this stance, he added: "If I believe, which I do, in the social aspects of gaming, at the furthest end of the gaming spectrum against that is handheld gaming, because that's a very solitary, time-killing activity.
"It's not something you share - we believe that the future is the social element of gaming, and that's going to be done through a console, not through a handheld gaming device."
And on the subject of connectivity, Moore launched into a stinging attack on Nintendo's key E3 focus, stating: "When I was at Sega we did that [GC/GBA connectivity] with Sonic Advance - and the consumer went [shrugs shoulders] big deal! Someone's yet to explain to me the value of hooking up your handheld device to your console."
Seemingly throwing the gauntlet down to his competitors he added: "If somebody can tell me what the value of [connectivity] is, I'm all for it." We're assuming Nintendo might have something to say on that matter...
Microsoft's position is clear: it believes wholeheartedly in the future of gaming as a social activity revolving around the myriad possibilities offered by its hardware and Xbox Live. So don't go holding your breath for that handheld Xbox anytime soon."

Discuss.
We were talking about GBA link up etc and I was adding that the Dolby Digital chip is better than Nintendo have ever offered as an addition to the console.
*DO NOT INTERPRET MY POST AS ANYTHING OTHER THAN THIS*
A subwoofer uses lower frequency to produce all those booming sounds and stuff that make the thunder storms in Morrowind sound amazing.
The other speakers operate at the same as normal speakers.
And you, clearly, are the monkey boy here.
FFS, you gave Beach Volley Ball 10/10 on that mecca of retarded game reviews, acegamez.
I think people have gotten mixed up on this. I said its better than Nintendo have ever offered. By offered I mean as an ADDITIONAL. I.e GBA link up.
GOD I aren't that gullable to be dragged in by a games audio to say its better than a game itsel.
READ MY COMMENT AGAIN.
> When will you children realise that I don't love Microsoft and I rate

You make sweeping generalisations like "my speakers are better than anything Nintendo has ever done" and expect people not to kick off?
Geez! I feel like Jon from Big Brother. Everything I say people get orgasms about and go off at a ridiculous tangent and start attacking me.
When will you children realise that I don't love Microsoft and I rate the GameCube just as much?

I'm sure it's very nice, god knows Resident Evil scared the crap out of me without any bloody 5.1 speakers.
But saying some stupid sound system is better than anything Nintendo has ever done is a) fanboyish and b) retarded.
If it wasn't for companies like Nintendo you wouldn't have your sodding Xbox and dare I say it, you wouldn't have your beloved speaker set-up because you'd have nothing to link it up to.....then again, the way you go on about it, you probably have most the connections inserted rectally anyway.
> Ever played a game in 5.1? Thats better than anything that Nintendo

It's true! I played Legends of Wrestling in 5.1 and I tell you it's better than HALO and ZELDA. The sound actually warped my brain so I thought I was playing a Zelda-Halo hybrid.
Running over Ganondorf with a tank was sheer class.
> No, it's because you make love to your Xbox and try and raise above

Please don't make me laugh. You have to be the biggest Nintendo fanboy on the planet.
> The only additional sound anyone should ever use is a subwoofer. They

Its a good job they aren't normal speakers then isn't it? I know you supposedly have this amazing system but just to let you know that they are digital speakers. The same sounds don't come out of all 5 speakers you muppet. The speaker to speaker transfer on some games is absolutley fantastic. The Sub is a very big asset to the system and when hired up its great on games like Mech Assault, Halo, Project Gotham etc.
> I am obssed with it because I spent a lot of money on it and its

> actually played a game like PGR or Halo in 5.1!
It's bloody surround sound for god sakes.
It adds absoloutly nothing to the game play, all you get is some funky sound. Jesus, i've watched films in 5.1 on a big plasma screen TV round my mates house and it really wasn't anything to shout about.
If it was 'that' amazing then i'd have bought my self some speakers a long time ago.
