Strange isn't it?
When you start to read a certain type of post, you immediately hear the GAD tone of it.
Much like this one, devoid of usual jokery and very diplomatic and serious.

So what Microsoft?
Well, the sentences for a blatant attempt will be structured so as to pose questions, and to then answer them yourself in a most wordy and news-reader style manner. To stress the sincerity of the attempt, there must be long paragraphs with little break up using the space bar.
To talk about gaming AI or other similar deep and exciting topics is a good indicator of an attempt.
But the tone must be consistent and unengaged throughout.
You must be careful to not write in your usual style, but to adopt one of authority and philosophical nature.
Often you will skip entire sections and just read the start and end, which means you will miss the middle section unless you are a judge. So it is usual that you cant type complete nonsense and nobody will read it anyway. To prove my point, reply and quote this middle section to indicate that you even bothered to read this far. I know I don't and can begin to talk about the benefits of eating satsumas without anyone even realising I am doing this. Satsumas are much nicer than oranges, easier to peel and dont get the stingy zest in your eyes.

So what about the future?
Well, this is the section where the blatant attempt will begin to offer dry predictions about what may lay in store for gamers, often using words like reality, gaming purpose and specification.
You must be careful to keep the neutral tone of the topic through to the end, this ensures that you sound serious and needy of a game. On no account start to revert to normal chat mannerisms like mentioning gaystation and rubbising Nintendo. So, as I approach the end of this blatant attempt at winning, I trust that my overly-serious tone of writing has assured the judges of my strenous effort at writing this guff and indicate my worthiness of a win.

And to see the complete opposite of the serious win-attempt, look at any of my wins.

I'm as amazed as you that I ever get anything.

I read your humour in games YH, and it's you through and through.

Retained your personality and style, it was you being passionate about something instead of just.droning.on.to.win.a.game

I'm not criticising anyone that does serious GAD attempts, I was bored and just wanted to highlight a massive seperation in writing styles.

That was all.

And I DO hate oranges.

Thing is, I did actually read the first post all the way through, but I still didn't quote it.

I'd like to think it contradicts what Goaty is saying, I'd honestly be interested to hear what you think though. Whether it comes across as a deliberate attempt, or whether it just seems a bunch of @rse just thrown on the page.

I rest my case.
Blatant, dry GAD attempts are things nobody bothers to read through all the way except the poor, poor judges

I'm not saying all GAD wins are written like this, but you can spot a blatant attempt a mile away.

And I'm quietly chuckling to myself here because of something.

I didn't read that post, YH, but I could have a look now, all I have to do is click on the link in the winners' list.

Are you makinig a reference to this winning-post because it's not a seriopus one and that it contradicts what Goatboy here is saying, or is it a prime example of what Goaty is saying?

Mine don't.

At least I don't hope they do.

Can someone read my "Humour in games" post over in Prime (might be a way down, it's a week or so old) and let me know?

Cheers.
