I need a new PC. My current one is too crap. And I was wondering if you lot could, well, help me "build" a new PC with your reccomendations (you tell us a decent spec kinda thing, but not too expensive)
I want the PC to be used for: -
- Games, With decent graphics and smooth gameplay
- Internet surfing, on broadband
- Music downloading
- Video downloading
- Game downloading
- Programming
- Video editing
- Have the ability to connect the PC to a console and "record" whats going on, on screen.
- Collage work
- Looking at top quality pornography
Go!

Not too expensive, if you want it to do most of the stuff that you listed you'll have to at least pump about £700 - £1000 into building one. Also it really depends if your building it yourself or buying and also what kind of monitor and case you want, as if you want a TFT monitor and a clear case with neon lights etc you're talking around about a £900 - £1000. Hell just get a bank loan for £1000 and build a top pc yourself by buying all your stuff from the net.
I'm just no good with brands and parts ect - I dunno the latest "good" components to buy.
I hope to build my PC, just don't know what spec to go for
You can configure PC's to your needs there. Mine just disptched at 00:03 today. :D
CPU, should be above 2500. AMD is cheaper. Intel is better for video stuff due to something called SSE. I personally will be going with AMD for next PC. £125 for a 2800XP+, £185 for 3000XP+. Oh and £15 or so for a fan.
Motherboard, anywhere between £40 and £100. Go for an N Force 2 based mobo if you go for an AMD chip. Obviously you get what you pay for. Say £75.
Graphics card. Current king is ATI Radeon 9800. But it is too expensive. Save a bit and go for the 9700 which is almost as good and available now for £200-250.
Memory. Big is best. 512Mb DDR RAM £40. Make it 1Gb at that sort of money.
HDD. £75 would get you 120 Gb. £110 would make it 160Gb. Stick with IDE just now, S ATA isn't worth the money I think and its new yada yada. Stick with the current devil you know.
Sound. £60 for a Sound Blaster Audigy 2. One of the best if not the best card there is.
Top quality porn? You need a big screen then. TFT is to expensive, i would stick with a CRT and get a 19" Illyama for £150.
Case. Do you want something really fancy? If so it could be £100+ for one. If your happy with beige then £30 with a mouse and keyboard. But in saying that I would get a decent mouse and keyboard.
Wireless mouse and keyboard from £30.
Speakers. Creative 4.1 from £40. 'Nuff said.
DVD drive. £30 for a 16x one. That is the fastest.
CDRW. £40 for a 52x. Don't come much faster if at all.
£90 for Windows XP home.
£10 - £15 for FDD. It may be dead. But you'll need one if your PC is dead.
Broadband, normally when you sign up they flog you a modem. £40 for a USB ADSL one.
£15 maybe on cables.
Can't think of anything else.
£920 or something like that and it can do almost anything.
Rough but it should be close enough that you know what to look for.
Although no sexual favours, sorry.
