No it wouldn't.
Why?, because look at the reason why these consoles failed or didn't conquer the world:
1. Game Gear
2. Atari Lynx
3. Pc Engine hand held
4. Neo Geo pocket
5. Neo Geo pocket colour
6. Wonder Swan

And that reason is?
Nintendo Gameboy and Gameboy Advance and its backwards compatibility.

the gamegear didnt fail it died about the same time sega did when it released the saturn

the lynx wasnt a flop either

I keep having this idea, where you have a pad with a screen on it, and it runs off he PS1 you have in your bag.

Why hasnt anyone thought of this?
