Have you ever been seconds away from completing a really hard level on a game?

I have been meters away from the end of the level on PD many times only to be shot in the back by the one guard I didnít see.

This is sooooo annoying. I often have thrown my controller at the floor in disgust.

So, I have an indestructible console. It sounds more like a cheap Hollywood movie but its quite true. I have an N64 and it had stood up to about 4 years of being bashed around. It still works perfectly though.

So far it has:

Moved house with us
Been to Shropshire about 3 times
Had all the controllers (3) thrown on the floor.
Had the controllers taken to friends houses
Been pulled of the table by an exited brother (my brother)
Been thrown up on by the cat
Been knocked of the table by the cat

Its amazing isnít it. Those are just what I could think of quickly. There is probably a lot more.

Yet it still works perfectly. I play something on it almost every day and apart from finding a glitch in perfect dark nothing has ever gone wrong with it.

Now I am about 60% certain that a PS2 would not survive being knocked of a table (about 2í drop) and I know the Xbox wouldnít (because of its hard drive)

The N64 is a robust console capable of taking quite a bit of punishment. Obviously it wouldnít put up much resistance if you hit it with a sledge hammer but you get the idea.

Consoles should be designed to look good but also to be hard wearing and to be able to survive small shocks. If your console broke when the cat knocked it off you would not be very happy. Obviously the PS2 and Xbox are unlikely to get knocked of because they are both huge and heavy. But it can happen. Hard drives (Xbox) are not at all designed to receive bumps. This means the Xbox will be the most stationary console ever. No one will move it because it will be too heavy and too delicate. The GC has a carrying handle and is designed to be robust and portable.

So Iím my opinion a console should be hard wearing. So should its controllers. I would love to test a PS2, GC and Xbox for these qualities but I will never allow the Xbox or any PS product into my house.
Bigger or more powerful isnít better. Stronger is better!

Making typing mistakes irritates me.

Making them when I'm making a post about spelling, is just plain 'bang your head on the table' material.

Correction:

Not spelt like that it's not.

If you'd spelt it 'remedial' it would be a word.
A different word, obviously, but a word noetheless.

(Personally, I'd have opted for robustness)

lol

Anything by nintendo seems able to live up to quite alot off punishment.

Basicly nintendo design their products for everyone.

ie young children or parents with babies/pets/relatives.

I dont believe it, I forgot about how strong it actually was.

I have thrown it around bashed it, stood on it and it still works fine.

My snes took one hell of a beating. I was only about 8-9 at the time and I just went psyhco on it, I jumped on it threw the control around and it took one hell of a beating.

I bet it I just looked at the PSX it would brake :o)

The N64 is robust i'll give it that, but only because it doesnt need all that delicate CD reading equipment. I dont think the gamecube will be half as robust as the N64.

I thought your immediate response to that would have been saying then they would have made them weaker so that people would have to go out and buy more of them.

In on way am I biased towards all of this 'Console Wars' that seems to come and go. But as I've never owned a N64 I couldn't really comment on one although I went from the N16 to the PS I would still rather play on a certain game that unfortunatly I can't remember it's name then play on a load of the PS games around.

Can anyone help me, in this game on the N16 you were a bloke on a different planet and had to go around from boss to boss collecting new items such as 'speed boots' to progress to the next part of the game. Ace game, but when I got rid of my N16 all of those years ago I've just forgotten about it.

PS2 doesn't seem to be doing that good in my opinion, and I don't mean on sales wise I mean on the variety availible to gamers. MGS2 will hopefully changed that and Max Payne but til then....

So I gather your a Ninty fan then?

actually there are very good games on the N64.

The PS's need to be stronger cos they are so crappy.
