Im not sure how it will effect Xbox Live there is a lively conversation going on over at the xbox.com forums.
Basically it will allow Linux and third party sofware like emulators and media players to run on the xbox.

I just want the hackers to release a third party program that will allow my Xbox with its plantronics headset to be used as a phone through a broadband connection. That would be pretty cool!

Will the Australian courts side with Microsoft or will Microsoft win on blackmail charges? In any event these programmers probably have next to no money so theyll only get bankrupt by Microsoft.
