Has anyone heard of Shadowbane, by the way?
It's an MMORPG only released in the US at the moment. I've read up quite a bit on it, and it sounds intruiging - there is a very real economy system governed totally by the players, who form together in guilds which control territory and towns. PC killing is also very common, due to the way all items & equipment not currently equipped are dropped by the deceased character.
The game seems to encourage a lot of communication and co-operation between players, as well as the RPG aspects. This could make it a real success. But...
It's had mixed reviews. Some say excellent, some say horrendously buggy/laggy/fundamentally flawed. And the most annoying part? Almost all of the official forums are locked to anyone who doesn't have a subscription to the game, so it's impossible to find out what the players really think of it.
If that's not a clever tactic to 'contain' the bad feelings, I don't know what is.
But I flat out refuse to pay to play a game after buying it. I played Ultima Online for the free 30 days, then never touched it again. I'll never get X-Box Live or play online on my PS2 either.
Pity, I'd like to play Galaxies, I really would.
