I did chuckle over this though...
"Pioneer A05 DVD Re-Writer
Now Only £164.99 - down £125
Awesome DVD writer for PC, it's never been cheaper to buy one!"
Funny how I just bought one from another site a couple of weeks ago for £99 inc. VAT then. Brand new, too! :-) Also got 50 branded DVD-R's with it for less than £164.99.
Mind you, that was a bare OEM unit. Still, they now have the retail boxed unit at £139.99
That same site is now doing the new 106/A06 (bare OEM) for £138.90, or retail boxed for £189.99
Still some way to go on the hardware prices, SR. Glad to see the software has come down a bit, though.
> I found some for £1. Probably fake though.
most probably being that they cost at least £80 upwards
I'm sorry, but this rubs off after about ten seconds on my card, and I've not found anywhere eles that needs it.
SR continually lose my custom over that.
Far too many of SR's products remain at the original RRP while other retailers are flogging identical items for half the price or less.
SR should be thankful I bought a MXX PC recently, it could well be the last thing I ever buy from them.
:(
A nice free gift too.
I really shou;dn't be buying things at the moment but when you see bargains I tend to go a little over the top.
Trying to find a pair of Oakley sunglasses at the moment so I'm trying not to buy much.
> I use SR for software and hardware because they are reliable and you
> dont have to use a credit card online
The credit card issue is a very valid point, but many other retailers are also extremely reliable.
I've always bought hardware and software from them in the past (I'm using a MAXX PC right now), and would never, ever question their reliability or service. And for a long time, their prices were also outstanding.
But for a while the price became not so great. Other equally reliable suppliers matched or, in several cases, considerably undercut them. I am generally a very loyal customer, and was loyal to SR for a long, long time.
But there comes a point where loyalty becomes stupidity, and things like this £66 price difference are way beyond that point!
I got the new drive and 50 blank DVD-R discs for £25 less than SR are asking for the drive alone. 50 branded DVD-R discs for under £40, when SR want £17.99 for 5 branded, or £29.99 for 25 unbranded.
Chances are I can sell my previous DVD writer on eBay for more than the £99 I paid for the new one, and actually make a small profit out of buying the new drive.
The question is, how much is customer loyalty worth? A couple of quid difference on a game is one thing, but differences like this should make your mind up for you.
And thats my two cents...
