Every machine has to load but the PS2 just about has it cracked, The hard drive helps alot but I think the stream loading technique used in Jak and Daxter will be used so much more in future games, here's why :-)

The Xbox can Read/Write to the main memory at 6.4gb/sec where as the PS2 can do it at a WHOPPING 48gb/sec, This means the data can be moved so quickly in the background that anything that usaully interupts gameplay is a thing of the past. red faction could have been continuous from start to finish if it used the on board memory in a similar way.

Loading times get shorter all the time but the amount of data is forever increasing that they seem to remain the same, Giving quick access to the virtual memory at THAT SPEED will not only bypass loading ALL TOGETHER but will allow games to give a better, more Fluent performance.

The PS2 can't store as much information as the xbox (without the HDD) but it moves the data around so much faster it doesn't have to. Basically we've got the nippiest thing out there and when used properly should be brilliant.

I said before that most of the loading in games is unnoticable,It's because of the way it's blended in with the menus. Some games you can't tell the difference if their on CD or cart BUT if you can bypass it all together thanks the super quick PS2 then that's just fantastic.

From people who've played it.

Grix saw the Gamecube display at E3 live via webcam.

There was no loading. It was instant.

Some of the bigger games might take a couple of seconds but with a bit of efficient programming optimisation, these should disappear also.

I'm actually a 'sit-on-the-fence' kind of person and tends to back-up and argue for both console makers, Sony and Nintendo.

So when you said that, I couldn't help but say: Gamecube has no loading times anyway. It will be nothing too new by the time the GC comes out. Yet, very exciting/promising prospect there about Jak and Daxter, eh?

Can't wait.

Shocky.

Thats both true and reassuring. Having seen the Jak and Daxter preview on the last DVD from PSM2, (the one with the developer insight) I can now see the huge benefits of having one huge level. No more dark doorways with loading times between, its just a steady walk from one place to the other... just like in real life!

The thing that stood out the most on the DVD in my opinion, was the ability to go to the top of that large tower, and look out over the rest of the gaming world. You can reach anywhere from there. Anything you can see, you can reach without loading. Superb!
