Oh yes, the beast is born!

All parts arrived ontime and intact (thanks E***er) and so I set to the mammoth task of building her yesterday! :D Specs are as follows:

Athlon XP Barton 2800+
1024mb ddr pc2700 (Crucial RAM)
Leaktek 5600FX 256MB
Seagate Barracuda 60gig
GNR 17inch TFT
Windows XP Pro
Neon lighting, loads of fans and extra goodies besides...

Well, still got a few teething problems (monitor and floppy drive), but the system is up and running and in a fit state to play games, which is all that matters. :)

So, installed UT2003 last night, and the game automatically set video and details settings to maximum. Loaded up a tasty outdoor map and got fraggin'. Needless to say the game looks absolutely stunning and runs like a greased-up rat through a drain pipe. :D

And that's in standard spec...wait till I start tuning her...

3dMark results to come soon(ish).

I don't consider such a question rude. However, spelling my name wrong is just darn chopsy... ;)

I think it came to around £750...that doesn't include VAT however.

On a semi related note, my Dell PC arrived today. I know, as I've said before, that the chances of me scratch building a system with parts is nil, hence for me Dell was the next best thing as it allowed me to choose the components to some degree, and their online promotions meant I saved £125 on the price, got double memory, and a free printer - only a Lexmark Z35 but I only print Word documents and the like.

I'd highly recommend them for novices like myself - I had it up and running within two minutes of unpacking, it's all set up correctly, and they supply all the cd's in case you need to restore to original settings - including the Windows XP cd (hurrah!).

I've had to wait just over a week (ordered online on Monday 7th at 11PM) but it's miles better value than any high street store, or in fact real store.

I particularly like the monitor, going from a 14inch normal one to a 17 inch flat panel lcd digital one is... very impressive.

surprised the differnece wasn't more, I put together a Athlon 1700 system for my brother last summer for couple of hundred quid. Shame they don't sell consoles and games also.

Yes indeed. :)

Although I'd regard them as VERY CHEAP and VERY CHEERFUL! :D

Cheaper even, than Dabs. Out of interest, went through SR, compiling similar parts and it was about £200 more! :o
