OK.

Air cannot be heated by the sun, the sun shines straight through it not heating it a bit. Once the suns energy hits a solid object such as the ground, it can then heat it.

The air comes into contact with the ground and the heat energy is passed from the ground to the air molecules...

These molecules rise (before stopping when they reach a certain height and cool down) forcing more air to come into contact with the ground and be heated.
