First off, Japan, The Land of the Rising Sun, is the creator of gaming... I know the Scots made television, and some American guy thought up electricity, but we're about gaming, and so Japan get the credit...
Companies like Capcom, Namco, Squauresoft, Temco, Nintendo, Konami and Sega all turn heads when new games and franchises are announced! History also plays a big part... these Japanese Giants are some of the few companies that made it through the 'Gaming is Geeky' peroid, and survived the Playstation generation.
But what's so special about them...? I mean the UK has Rareware - Saviours of Nintendo?, The company that made GTA, and all those wierd companies up north that make the cool little games... oh and the creators of Lemmings are from Britain! But that doesn't cut it!
As talented as Rare are, they haven't really played a part in many peoples past... at least not the big-time gamers that are reaching their late teens... However...
The Japanese Giants have... old games like Mario, Donkey Kong, Sonic and Zelda have been the food that older gamers, like some of those here, have grown up on!
If an Indian guy turned round to you and said, "Excuse me, mate. But from now on you'll have top drop your "Fish 'n' Chips" and eat all this spicy stuff that my missus cooked up" I don't think too many people would oblige!
It's the same with the Japanese companies... Gamers know where their bread is buttered, they wouldn't trade in Mario, Zelda, Sonic or Metal gear for the world! And rightfully so!
Imagination doesn't start and end in Japan... goodness knows that there are loads of people here with great ideas and wild imaginations... But to incorporate those ideas into implementing a game isn't too easy... on top of all the code you have to keep the storyline constant, the lighting right, the character interaction a constant and loads more stuff... the Japanese can do this... so can we... but they made the machines... so they have an advantage.
You know in football how there is major rivalry between neighbouring clubs? Yes... but when an England International is on, the players and fans, that wage war on their neighbors come together in peace and harmony.... These 'Japanese Giants' are like 10 different England teams... no-one hates any of them... well... with the exception of a few Ninties' hardship towards Squaresoft! but in general, they're regarded as National heros, because gaming and 'Chic' stuff is such a big part of the Japanese culture...
I know this topic doesn't really break-ground like some others, but if anyone asks, you can tell them that the reason companies like Square and Konami, Nintendo and Sega are so well thought of, is because they are the foundation of our dreamworld... the foundation of gaming itself!

Methinks this guys is taking the p...
What next, Thix Graves?
Still, I could expect no less. It wasn't exactly anything special. That's what you get for writing cheap topics.... reples from a Scotsman? An Elton John wannabe? and someone who has mistaken me for someone else.... or made a terrible typo!
Still....
No hard feelings....
