There is a difference between a game being rubbish and you not liking it.

Hitman 2 is rubbish.

Yes, I could spend a few hours working incredibly slowly through a level, or I could shoot everyone on the map in five minutes and speed through the levels.

Which is what I did.

If I wanted to play a shooting game I would load up Max Payne or Halo. I wanted a stealth game and I wanted to play it as realistically as possible. Going in guns blazing and firing off rounds at every guard is hardly the object of a stealth game...

I imagine it would be a very boring game if you didn't shoot people. Just standing still for hours, clocking guard's patrol routes and the like. Boring.
The CIA level annoyed me, just because you couldn't kill people, but you could always shoot them in the head with a Ring Airfoil, or a sticky shocker, and they never wake up. Plus you couldn't shoot out the lights, which annoyed me.

But if you never shot anyone, the game would surely be terribly tedious,

I don't mean easy in the sense that you can just shoot everyone. Apart from cameras and the places where you were forced to shoot I didn't use my weapons aside from the stun equipment. By easy I am talking about the fact that there was always one way out of a situation. Sometimes in Metal Gear it takes a lot of planning to get through one area without being seen. Splinter Cell however was very easy and quite disappointing from my point of view.

Most of the time all you had to do was stand somewhere in complete darkness, and unless the guard bumps into you, he'll never even know you were around. Then you shoot him in the head while he walks away.

The first 3/4 of the game must have been really easy though, as I did it without using the zoom on the SC20K, because I didn't know it was there until I got to the Chinese Embassy.
