What do you think of it?
I think its pretty cool! The players look great!
> EA still get so much money without the FIFA series
That they do, although fifa is crap, they still get bucket loads of money from there other, top quality games like ssx, nhl and other sport games. They also make adventure games and other genres too.
But TIF is great!
EA Sports can't rely on their American sports titles anymore either to bring home the proverbial bacon, The staple diet of the Playstation2 US sports enthusiast will be tempted with the Sega Sports efforts. The '2K' games for the Dreamcast were very good indeed, and with these titles set to make an appearance on the PS2 now that Sega has gone third party, EA will have to pull their fingers out, or their seemingly unassailable hold on the console sports market will start to slip away.
EA have always relied on the coverage that FIFA titles get from the media, I often wonder at the sanity of some reviewers, or perhaps more cynically considered the magazine motives for the unbridled joy that gets shovelled out over the latest FIFA release. I do think that Konami/team SoHo have really closed the gap (and passed EA) over the last couple of years. Pro Evo is not just an alternative to FIFA 2002, most people agree that it will be a much better game. Either that or the hole EA has dug with it's constant touching up of the same game has finally started to cave in around them, and gamers just don't trust FIFA titles anymore.
With the entrance into the market of TIF2002 there's a third viable option, which people are already warming to. Despite it's slightly dodgy PSone background it's looks and plays very well. What disappoints me about EA is that even with the wealth of experience they should have accumulated making football games, a relatively new title can come along and have people saying that they rate it at least alongside FIFA.
When it comes down to It, I don't think EA will let this happen. After this round of PS2 football games paints the picture that we all think it will (i.e. Pro Evo cleaning up), EA will either rise to the challenge and come back with an absolute gem of a footy game, or slide ignominiously behind Pro Evo and accept it's fate. It's going to have to make real progress with it's Madden/NHL/NBA/Triple Play games, so they might as well do it with the FIFA series while they're at it.
