What? A prime topic? Well, my!

Under-rated games seem to have grown and the good thing about them is that because they don't sell as well as those hyped up super-games, you can usually find them cheaper than their counterparts.

My latest find is Wreckless. Now this was hyped to heaven on the Xbox, mainly as a showpiece for the graphics of the console. Unfortunately, it suffered from a shortness of gameplay and a singular style. It wasn't until a lot later that the other two formats got their versions of the game, and by then everyone had forgotton about it.

Well, I'm here to tell you that it's well worth picking up if you have a PS2 and even better for Gamecube owners. Given the extra time to develop the gameplay, Wreckless now boasts many more levels and even a two player. Ok, so the two player mode is a tiny bit strange, both being on the same screen and catching up, Micro machines style, if you're too slow, but it's as close to a 2 player Chase HQ as you'll get. The single player missions have been padded out too, which all adds up to a great little game. Well worth a look.

Talking of cars, TD Overdrive is a fun little racer and guess what? It's now a little cheaper too. Second hand this game can be a real bargain and it goes like a rocket (though not as fast as the Burnout games).

Then there's Turok Evolution. Now it didn't get that high a score in some mags (though C&VG gave it an 8/10), mainly because it was a standard FPS with some woeful scenery glitches, but for the price you can now pick it up it's worth every penny.

Roaming around the forest with huge dinosaurs is great, and that's only the first level. Loads of weapons and intelligent enemies make it a good little investment for a small cost. Special Reserve even have the PS2 version at £9.99!

Another way to get cheaper games that are now less well received is by looking at the franchises. Games like Tony Hawks have many sequels and as the new one comes out, the old ones get traded in and even go down in price brand new, a mere £10 for PRO SKATER 3 on the Cube. With new tricks and better bits and pieces, everyone forgets about the old games and goes straight for the new. These kind of games were pretty highly rated too, when they first came out, so you won't be buying a dud, just a cheap thrill (of sorts!).

There you go, plenty of bargains to be had, so don't complain when you haven't got enough for the next big thing, there's always something good you haven't tried yet just waiting in that bargain bin! Don't believe the hype, some of those under-rated games are better than you think.

Sled Storm is another one that deserves attention, particularly if you liked SSX Tricky.

Eternal Darkness got loads of attention when it was released and most of us bought it full price. I wouldn't call that under-rated.

I find it such a crime that Eternal Darkness doesn't get much attention seeing as it's easily one of the best adventure games ever conceived.

Lately I've found it more worthwhile to pick up a £10 mediocre game than a hyped £40 classic.
Most of these old games seemed a waste of money when they were released but are great second hand or cheap.

Burnout for a tenner was great.

Having said that, I regret parting with every penny of the £15 I paid for Cel Damage...
