To call a game "kiddie" is simple but when you think about you will relise that many games that are refered to as being "kiddie" are not.
Just because a game has brighter colours or cartoon like characters doesn't mean its designed for young children.
CBFD is definatly not a kiddie game. Also many games that look cartoony have much deeper levels.
Super smash Bros is a good example. It has some simple gameplay for younger children but there are many more complex moves for people of all ages to play with. There are secret characters and levels. I still enjoy playing it and I keep getting better.
Also Super Mario, Looks like its designed for young kids but it is really meant to appeal to everyone. Its very playable and was the first game I ever played on an N64.
Legend of Zelda is another example. Itís a HUGE game with a massive amount of adventure and things to do.
If all the games on the N64 were violent or rated 15+ then a huge amount of the gaming market would be lost. There are plenty of violent games or games for older games.
Banjo Tooie, I would be impressed if you found someone who didnít describe this game as childish. But it is a very very hard game. It has levels that just get bigger and bigger as you explore. Things open up and you find another bit. It took me 50+ hours of solid gameplay to complete. There is even a multiplayer.
I think this topic is really about Nintendoís skill in producing games for everyone. They aim to entertain people of all ages, not just the 15-22 year olds.
So please lets not have any more topics about Nintendo being to ìchildishî or producing too many ìkiddieî games.
Finally, Pokemon, this is something that you either love or hate. Most people say they hate it but secretly play the games at home. Nintendo found an idea that people liked and used it. There is nothing wrong with that. They made a lot of money and made a lot of kids very happy. I would be impressed if Pokemon kept going but it has been one of the biggest fads I can remember.
Do Playsation have anything as big as pokemon? No because they would see it as being designed for 3 year olds and not be interested.
Thanks for reading but frankly i don't give a damn,
Lord Semajal
> That's not true. Banjo-Kazooie is just mind crushingly kiddy. Really, it is.
It is funny, it is cool i dont are what you say!
Look at all of Turbo's posts in this thread.
He liked all the platformers on systems he owned (like the Mega Drive), and it looking forward to Jax and Daxter, yet rated the Nintendo one - Mario 64 in the same class as Croc.
I think that sums it up really.
EVERYONE likes these Nintendo "kiddie" games, but the owners of other consoles find them as easy ways of targeting and slating Nintendo.
It's all down to stereotypes...
Thank God we have good games magazines that tell us the truth about a game so that we don't all just look at a game, see the BRIGHTLY Coloured 'kiddy' style graphics and turn our noses up at it.
CBFD - Looking at the box and screenshots of a happy little squirrel in a brightly colored adventure land we would of all thought it was a 5 yr olds game unless we had read reviews on SR, Internet, Magazines...wouldn't we??
If only more companys would follow Nintendos good example and concentrate on gameplay before visuals then gaming would be a more fun social experience!
Why does that guy stab himself in Tekken anyway? It's Kerazy. No, actually it's just crazy.
For variety see the PC, everyone is a third party so there is a huge range of choice.
I know very few games made by Sony themselves, (not saying that's a bad thing) but I know loads on the Playstation and Playstation 2 made by third parties which give the console a large variety of games.
Nintendo is the same, with great racers like F1 World Grand Prix 2, and great shoot-em-ups like Perfect Dark and Duke Nukem Zero Hour. Ok, Nintendo has a lot of platformers in the shape of Mario and Banjo Kazooie, however Sega and the Playstation had them too in the shape of Crash Bandicoot, Sonic the Hedgehog and even Lara Croft!
Why people think Nintendo specialise in one type of game, I don't know! There are games like Kuru Kuru Kururin and Tetris for the Game Boy which are puzzle games; Mario Kart 64 and F-Zero X for the N64 which are racers; PokÈmon Stadium and it's sequel which are turn based fighters; The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time and The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask which are Role Playing games; Clayfighter 63 1/3 (ok that's a poor example) and Mortal Kombat 4 which are beat-em-ups; Perfect Dark and Goldeneye which are sh0ot-em-ups; the list goes on and on and on! In fact most of those games I mentioned are made by Nintendo and I didn't once mention a platform game! It's when people say that Perfect Dark was the only decent game on the N64 that gets up my nose!
Ok, maybe argue about what games you prefer, but as I've already said, don't make up strange facts about the games to make other consoles look bad!
People people, have we learned nothing?
Its down to a difference of opinion, you can rant and rave about your opinion all you want, but don't expect to change anyone else's opinion.
To be honest, from my point of view, it seems to come down to:
"I've bought a PS2, it cost me £300, it must be the best"
"I've not bought a PS2, I'm waiting to buy a console that hasn't yet been released, that must be the best"
Quit your whining and play the games YOU enjoy. What difference does it make what console is Semejal's or Turbonutter's favourite?
carry on...
