"X03 HITS THE BEACH!

A beach infested by evil green crabs, it would appear. First X03 details revealed as Microsoft's mega Euro showcase heads to the South of France

13:13 Having issued invites last month, Microsoft has finally lifted the lid on preliminary details for X03, its third annual European Xbox showcase, set to take place on September 16-17 in Nice.
A teaser site for the press-only event has just launched, terrifying those foolish enough to click on the link with shocking images of a polluted beach, populated by mutant, psycho crabs clattering through a toxic green sea. Microsoft reckons this is the South of France but it looks more like Blackpool to us.

X03 will begin at 19:30 on Wednesday, September 17, but the bulk of business is likely to occur on the following day, where gameplay opportunities, "Developer Unplugged" sessions and one-to-one interviews will take place.

X03 is a very big deal for Microsoft and you can expect some major announcements as well as fresh looks at the all the biggest Xbox software on the horizon. Having announced its acquisition of Rare at last year's event (although, to be fair, everybody already knew about it), Microsoft will be expected to grab the headlines with something speacial this year.

Half-Life 2 on Xbox? First sighting of Perfect Dark Zero? Hands-on with Halo 2? Steve Ballmer limbo dancing in a grass skirt? We'll be on hand at the event to bring you all the big announcements and news direct. If we're not savaged to death by the evil crabs of Hades first, that is."

WE WANT HALO 2 DEMO.

WE WANT PERFECT DARK 0 INFO.

Nintendo and Microsoft are both aiming to get their next-gen consoles out before Sony release the PS3.

Whether they will or not, who knows...

PS3 is out in like 2005.

But delay's will happen.

2006 is likely.

If it's before 2006, I'll cry.

I've only had my XBox since February, so any news of XBox 2 is, frankly, unwelcome. I mean, the XBox has been out for 17 months and already people want to know what machine's coming next for God's sake.

Like Your Honour said a while ago, why the rush?

I'm happy with the Cube as it is, and obviously both it and the Xbox have good long lives, as long as they do most things right.

Info on Live updates would be good, but I'm sure as hell I don't wanna know squat about XBox 2. What's everyone's hurry?

Maybe some info on Xbox 2?

They'll probably make some more announcement about Xbox LIVE aswell. Fingers crossed.

It'd be good to see some more of what Halo 2 has to offer. Also Half-Life 2 is looking pretty sweet from what I've seen of it on TV. Perfect Dark Zero on the other hand... I heard it's gonna be third person and cel-shaded...

MEH?!?!

Third person AND cel-shaded? Sorry, but as far as cel-shading goes, some games are suited to it... whilst others certainly aren't. Perfect Dark Zero isn't. And why the hell couldn't Rare stick with the first person layout? Who's bright idea was this? If it was Gates, I swear to God I'll bite him.

I'd also like to see more footage, shots and details of Conker: Live & Uncut, along with Tony Hawk Underground, Counter-Strike and Project Gotham Racing 2. Oh, and maybe a proper "Vice City on XBox" announcement, too.
