Or that's what you may have heard from very biased fans of other consoles.
Apparently, the GameCube will be rubbish for the same reason the N64 was. Too many sequels, and too many kiddies games. Same as the Game Boy Advance, too many sequels, kiddies games and conversions.
So how come the Playstation 2 is still around then?
Let me remind you of these PS2 games:
Spiderman: The Movie (k)
Dues Ex (c)
Final Fantasy 10 (s)
GT3 (s)
Theme Park World (s)(k)(c)
Half Life (c)
Alien Vs Predator 2 (c)(s)
SSX Tricky (s)
Tekken 4 (s)
Grand Theft Auto 3 (s)
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (k)
Wacky Races (k)
Resident Evil Code Veronica X (s)
Armoured Core 2 (s)
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (s)
Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2 (s)
Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 (s)
Freak Out (k)
and loads more!
Not to mention all the sequels and kiddies games on PC and Dreamcast!
Sequels aren't a problem in my point of view, no matter what console they are on! Ok, I admit that they are probably better on one console than the other, depending on the controls, sound quality and gamely, however a game is a game no matter what it is based on or what console it is on!
The same with games full of cartoon graphics and effects. I will be staying clear of the Tweenies game for Playstation, but that is because I don't have a Playstation, and I can't stand the Tweenies! However, why games like Sonic, Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and mostly other Nintendo games are considered as 'Kiddies' games, I don't know! They are designed for all ages, are really fun to play, and aren't full of foul mouthed people who can't speak with any intelligence (please exclude the language content from Perfect Dark, and unforgettably Conkers Bad Fur Day)
Conversions don't make games bad either! Some people may not have a PC, or a Playstation, or a Dreamcast. Some may want to play their favourite games on another console! Conversions give you choice! There's no label attached to them saying, "You must buy me!". You have the choice of either buying it or leaving it.
So why do people bad mouth other consoles for these reasons?
Because they can't think of anything else to say!
Every console has sequels.
Every console has cartoon style games.
Every console has it's conversions!
I enjoy having a game of Mario Kart Super Circuit on the Game Boy Advance. I enjoy a game of Full Throttle on my PC. I enjoy a game of Duke Nukem: Zero Hour on my brothers N64. I enjoy a game of Sonic Adventure 2 on my friend's Dreamcast. These games all fit into at least on of those categories. But it doesn't make any of them bad!
If you dislike a console, then don't blame the games. The games can be brilliant but you still would use them to bad mouth a games console, I know I have in the past. If you don't like the console, try and think of more valid reasons other than "The graphics are better on my console than on yours". The SNES isn't exactly the best console graphically, however I've heard Super Mario Kart being called "the greatest game ever" because of the "spark" it, and only a handful of other games, has.
If you've got a problem with a console then give a proper reason. I have said many times before that one of the only reasons I dislike Sony's consoles is because it has turned the video gaming market just like the trainer market. If you don't have Nike, then your trainers are rubbish! It is obviously not true, however people believe it to be. I don't like Microsoft. Mainly because Bill Gates is the richest man on the planet, but how much does he give to charity? If he does give any money away, he doesn't tell anyone, I sure haven't heard anything. So I may not get the X-box, even though I like the look of the console and it's games, out of principle.
To be honest, I don't even like the look of Luigi's Mansion on the GameCube. It looks like Ghostbusters with Luigi in it instead. It could well be a good game, but until I've played it I wont know. I will more than likely be getting Super Smash Bros Melee and Star Wars Rogue Leader as my first two GameCube games when it's released. But who knows, only time will tell.
Basically, don't use those three points against consoles and games. Games that are sequels can still be fun. Games that are conversions can still have the same elements of game play in them. Games that are of a cartoon design can still be great fun for adults. Just try playing these different types if you don't believe me. In fact you probably already have.
