It's taken me a while to figure this out, but this whole ndustry is incredibly hypocritical.
Here are some reasons for this thinking:
Just seen an advert for Championship Manager 01/02 while looking round the forums.
No doubt this game will sell well.
No doubt it will be bought by people who slate EA for realsing the same FIFA games each year. Seems a bit hypocritical to me.
At least with FIFA you get better graphics each time around, and possibly an improved control system.
What do you get with the new CM? A slightly less "Excel" look to it? OR do you buy it so you can have all the updated values of Going-out-getting-drunk-and-beating-the-wife?
That's point number one, moving on two the next now:
Why do people say "It's the games that count, graphics don't matter", yet when a new game or console is due out, the press and forums are filled with "Phwoah! Look at the graphics! Watch that video clip!".
See what I mean?

Not really. I wasn't excited at all, and it hadn't been announced for long before it defected.

Ahey? im sure MGS2s got gameplay by the bucketload, its not all about the gameplay anway a lot of it is, but you can't have ugly graphics nowadays and tons of gameplay that just wouldn't be right.

Exactly! As soon as they see better graphics elsewhere, they suddenly start saying "Oh, it's all about the gameplay!"

Who said that? I think most Nintys will admit the graphics on MGS2 are good.

CM is a fans only game. U either love it it or hate it.
Personally, i love it. It is my most played game, and i have been playing the game from back in the Amiga days. 1994, i think i started playing, and i have to say that the game has improved with every version.
As you said the CM01/02 is just an update, but a very good update at that. It has a surprising amount of new features which have got me hooked on the demo.
BUt championship manager shouldnt be compared to FIFA in the same way, Fifa has basically stayed the same since the mid 90's. Whereas CM has changed dramitically, and thats and thats even better considering this game doesnt rely on graphics.
This game is the last update of CM3, CM4 will have a complete overhaul of the game engine. Its the same with every version of the game. They release about 3 updates for each number.
As it said on the Cover of CM00/01. This is the most important game of your life.

...I hate the bloody game too, it's a load of crap... fancy looking at a load of words on a screen when you can be controlling a fully rendered guy and use YOUR OWN skill to score. You don't have Championship Bird-Puller do you?! You have to do it yourself... with your own skill! These Champ Man losers need a slap!
