It's taken me a while to figure this out, but this whole ndustry is incredibly hypocritical.

Here are some reasons for this thinking:

Just seen an advert for Championship Manager 01/02 while looking round the forums.

No doubt this game will sell well.

No doubt it will be bought by people who slate EA for realsing the same FIFA games each year. Seems a bit hypocritical to me.

At least with FIFA you get better graphics each time around, and possibly an improved control system.

What do you get with the new CM? A slightly less "Excel" look to it? OR do you buy it so you can have all the updated values of Going-out-getting-drunk-and-beating-the-wife?

That's point number one, moving on two the next now:

Why do people say "It's the games that count, graphics don't matter", yet when a new game or console is due out, the press and forums are filled with "Phwoah! Look at the graphics! Watch that video clip!".

See what I mean?

Ah Speedball, yes definately coming to PC, I'm not sure where it's going first. Anyway for the PC at least they intend to make it like a big sport that can be watched on-line as well as played. So it may even become the first computerised spectator sport. Except that there have been many tournaments and such which have been watched by some and certain countries show games like Starcraft on their TV.

Anyway I wonder if a new Speedball will have enough new things to be worth getting over the old ones. Yes the graphics will be improved but what else? Well there's new scoring systems, new player positions, player development and all sorts so there probably will be enough. Anyway, where would you get a copy of Speedball these days?

I don't like football in general. It's like religion, an excuse to argue and fight. Then there's the huge amounts of cash that flow through the game. People get paid quite a lot to play a game don't they and yet there are those people who actually make a difference and this tends to be lower paid. Of course it's all about capitalism, farmers who will do anything for cash, it's not about feeding people it's about supply and demand. Bah, what is the world coming to? An end presumably, but don't let that get you down we should have thousands of years yet and you'll be dead thousands of years before then... Let that get you down.

Anyway, one of the head guys who created CM has decided to quit because it's becoming too big and he preferred it when it was just him and his brother. I never understood the appeal of CM, since you could just play excel and have the same sort of fun surely? I guess it's the idea that you are managing a football squad but in reality there are no numbers apart from the ones made up by yourself or other people. Actually that is the same as CM isn't it? Oh well. Still anyone who enjoys CM has a right to it and so as long as people still want CM games then I don't see why they shouldn't keep making them.

As for Resident Evil I really don't like it, it's stolen from Alone in the Dark but then made bad with a rubbish plot and terrible characters. It just doesn't come up to todays standards. Alone in the Dark wouldn't either but it's retro so it has an excuse. I wish Nintendo wouldn't sell out to this junk, it's bad enough they've done it allready. Anyway, it's not exactly an Adult game is it, considering how simple the puzzles are, except the ones that are insane and make little sense. Then there's the mindless wandering, and I'm not talking about the zombies... sorry infected people. So why are you immune? Because you have a special genetic immunity no doubt, how convenient. Now none of these things on their own are bad (well maybe the gameplay but even the story can be excused) but they just total up to make a rather poor game and then they made sequels that were essentially the same which resulted in just more poor quality. Alien Versus Predator 2 should be good, apparently though it may not be well recieved by some and there are fears it will bring nothing new over the original except a few graphics, which might not be all bad since the original is still playable but it would maybe be a better expansion pack than new game.

Agreed. I'm a big football fan, but I can't stand football games. Last one I enjoyed was the original fifa. That was also the first one I enjoyed, come to think of it.

They all have annoying gameplay bugs in, irritating 'skill' moves (which require the skillfull pressing of one button), very dodgy commentary, and little actual control over the game.

I want to see another speedball game. That was class.

if you wanna play football then go out with a real ball!
every single footie game is exactly the same (dont go giving me that crap about oh but they improve the handeling and graphics)"kick" a ball into the net and oh what a suprise a crowd goes wild or manage the team to success. well whoop de doo
with the very annoying repetative commentary and and well i am not gonna go on about it cos to me football in all of its forms is crap through and through

Ah the hypocrasies of us gamers!

But it's our perogative (sp?) When it's our console it's great, when it's someone elsesthen it's trash, simply because we don't have it.

It's easier to accept that you can't have something if you tell yourself that it's rubbish than it is to look longingly at the screenshots, download the videos, only to know that we'll never play it.

The thing about the screenshots and videos being gawped at, followed by "It's gameplay that counts" cries it a bit different though. You can't let someone have a taste of the gameplay, unless they play the game, but you can show everyone a screenshot easily.

Screenshots, however, can be misleading. If the screenshots are only of the FMV, the ingame graphics won't look as good, you might be disappointed, you might build the game up to be something it's not.

At least with a video you can tell if it's in-game, and at least get some idea of what the game is about. Trouble is you won't know if it has an iffy control method until you pick up that controller yourself.

Back to us hypocrites, many Nintendo owners would have told you that the Resident Evil series was trash last month, now it's what will bring mature gamers back to Nintendo. Playstation owners that have been saying "Nintendo won't attract a mature audience, we have all the decent mature titles" have now changed their arguement, and are boasting the likes of Jak and Daxter, which looks not unlike Banjo Kazooie/ Tooie which was slated as a kiddy game when on Nintendo's console.

And Xbox fans? They'll be saying "But I like having blisters on my hands" after gripping that beast of a controller...... ;-)

It just goes to show how great Goldeneye when 99/100 Playstation fans adored it as a super game, despite it being an N64 game.

I am now trying to remember if I ever did this hypocritical thing...

The closest I think is when someone told me that Turok 4 was PS2 exclusive.
I said "A pity, but Turok was always in Goldeneye and Perfect Darks shadow anyway"

Not completely sure whether that counts.

When people tell me how great something like The Devil May Cry or Red Faction is, I normally point out that it's a good chance that these games will make it to the Gamecube as well.

I know that I've slated GT3 for being unoriginal and plainly dull and boring...

... but I'd still think that it was stupid and boring if it was on the Gamecube as well.

Most of the reat games in the PS2's lineup are coming to Xbox- MGS2, Silant Hill 2 and even Timesplitters 2.

I liked the Munchs Odessy remark there. All PS2 owners were looking forward to it untill the developers said the game was Too complex for the PS2 to handle.
