Have you ever felt hard done by when you get home, slap on the PSOne/PS2, load up your brand new game and find out that it was the biggest waste of 40 quid ever? Well your not alone there. This kind of thing first struck me after i purchased Kessen (PS2) for £39.99. I got it home, played it for about an hour but then felt very dissapointed with my self for purchasing something that i would nether play again. Don't get me wrong, Kessen may be enjoyed by alot of people. I thought i would enjoy it because i usually like stratergy games but i felt a bit like i had no control and was watching a movie rather than playing a game. The main reason i purchased it was of the good reviews it recieved. But thats just someone elses opinion. I should have waited until i could find out for myself wether i liked it. But that would mean purchasing the game. Unless of course the game had been on a playable demo disk.

So now i get to my point. Why don't more game producers create demo's of their new games to put on a magazine cover disk or even to be played in a games shop on the consoles they usually have there. I'm pretty sure it would help boost sales. It's like International league soccer. I liked that game. I still do. But until i took the risk of paying the full quid for it i didn't know if it would be any good. Lot's of people would of been put off by the poor reviews it recieved, and these people may have liked the game if they had played it. But they didn't get the chance because no demo was produced. So if Taito produced a demo of it's game then it would let people see if they actually did like it and not just hate it because of it's 2/10 rating. But on the other hand someone could be off to purchase the game, see the demo in the shop, play it and decide the games awful and choose to buy another game.

I think alot more games producers have started to realise the importance of demos. You can see this by the increase of playable demos on the OPSM2 cover disk. This may be because alot more games are out now or it could just be that the producers want ot show off their brand spanking new game. But brand spanking is usually the case (or the complete opposite). The demos you find always seem to be games that you would definatey buy anyway or ones that you wouldn't even want to touch with a barge pole. What help is that? You want to play the dark horses not the Definate hits or misses!

Soon, when the HDD and internet are available for PS2, i think you will be able to download a demo of virtually every game. Lets hope you can because this would be a massive help, and in the meantime, lets hope GOTD review writers continue to write great, honest reviews about games that help us determine what to spend our last £40 on.
Thanks for your time, i hope you reply,
Nat.
