So, what don't I know, and why don't I care? Well, I'm certainly not a technical person. Some people post a lot about how the console works, what's inside it, how they actually play the games etc. One example is in the HDD (I've only just learnt this abbreviation, I always called it a hard drive.) A topic was made about this lately, basically dissing it. I tried to reply, but failed miserably. Why? Because I don't a thing about it! What is it supposed to do? All I know is that it supposedly lets you save more without a memory card, and...well, I guess I have a hard drive in my PC which stores space, so...
See what I mean? I don't know what I'm talking about. Why don't I care? Well, I'll explain that to you later.
What else don't I know much about? Specs. People go on and on and on about the 'graphic memory,' and how the GameCube has 'however many polygons," and the thing is, I don't know what they are! I can make a stab in the dark at them, such as taking the phrase 'graphic memory' and turning it into, 'graphics,' but that's about it. I mean, graphic memory could be something I've just though up of! I think I've heard something like it, but it's probably two different parts of the console that I've mixed up.
I know basically what polygons are, but I don't know how you make it harder to recognise them or anything.
If someone says to me, "Well, the GameCube has a 128ZX-bit memory graphics responder,) I'm not able to reply, as I won't know what that is, and won't know what the PS2 'version,' is.
I don't know how this new Wavebird controller works. In fact, I don't really know how any game controller works! Humm...I'm typing at the moment, and I've just realised that I'm not sure as to how a keyboard works! How does a memory card save data? errr....hmmm...well...
As I've showed, I don't know a lot about gaming, and there's much more than that, I promise you. BUT, the good thing is, that I don't care.
Why don't I care? Because to be honest, I don't NEED to know these things. If I want to play on a games console, I don't HAVE to know how the buttons I'm pressing on the controller are sent to the console, or wherever it's sent, (for all I know, it could be sent to a small man inside the black box that is my PS2.) I don't NEED to know why Gran Turismo 3 appear on my screen. As long as it works, and all I have to do is press a few buttons, I don't care.
Do I need to know what Graphics Proccessor my GameBoy Advance has to be able to enjoy it? Nope, I just push the switch and up comes F-Zero:Maximum Velocity.
I don't care about any of these things. What I DO know however, is what games I like to play. I know that I LOVED Metal Gear Solid and the whole Gran Turismo series, and I also know why. I know that I like many games, including Red Faction, Zone Of The Enders, Perfect Dark, Virtua Tennis and Deus Ex, and I know why I like them.
I KNOW whether a game has great graphics, okay graphics or poor graphics. I KNOW whether a game has amazing gameplay, good gameplay or poor gameplay. I also KNOW whether a game has a worthy soundtrack or not. These are all probably the most important aspects of gaming. These are all in the context of actually 'playing a game'.
Why do I visit these forums? Not to argue about specs (although I have done many a time {:)) and not to talk about the technical stuff. I am okay at talking about the actual consoles and accessories, but not the way they work. But I AM here to talk about why I like/dislike some games, and why I like the consoles I own, namely the PS2 and GBA.
I don't know much about gaming. But I don't care.
Thanks for reading, Ant.

Hmmm... yeah! :D
It's the games that make a console
Specs and the graphic chips and so on do yes give the computer/console that extra edge but the games need to be able to use them to there full extent to make them worth while being there.
