I was rooting around on the internet and found somewhere which had all the unanswered questions on the gamecube. i havent seen them anywhere else so im posting them here for you guys.

Is it as noisy as PS2 and Dreamcast?

Not quite as noisy as the hovercraft-esque PS2, but hardly quiet. One side of the machine appears to be taken up by a hefty fan, which is switched on constantly. If you don't have the volume turned up high, you'll always be able to hear the whirring and grinding of the Gamecube's mechanical guts.


How powerful is the controller's rumble?

The built-in rumble effect is very subtle. In fact while playing Wave Race, we didn't even realise it was rumbling at all. The controller is so comfortable to hold, the rumble effect is barely noticeable. That said, when you're actually concentrating on feeling for it, the vibration is more solid and realistic than the buzzy, shaky Dual Shock 2, or the N64's rumble pak.


Is it well-built?

Fortunately, since the machine is likely to be knocked around by small kids, it's as solid as its Fisher Price looks suggest. It's a little lighter than a Dreamcast, but it feels like it might be able to withstand a drop without spewing out foul-smelling smoke the next time you switch it on. Although we haven't tried that yet. Curiously, there's an ugly little grey sticker on the front, saying 'Graphics by ATI', which isn't on the box photo.

What are the loading times like?

Fantastic. In fact, if it wasn't for having to open the lid and fit a disc onto the spindle (which has its own eject button), you wouldn't know you were playing a disc-based console. There are no loading bars, no lengthy splash screens before you get to the title menu, and a mercifully brief amount of 'dead screen' time. Wave Race lets you draw patterns in the water during the five seconds it takes to load a course. Luigi's Mansion actually appears to have no loading time at all during the game.


And what does it smell of?

It smells of money.

It doesn't make any noise on the videos of the GC i've seen. Like the one showing the game being put in at IGN.

I hope the Gamecube doesn't make a loud noise! That's the one thing that annoys me about my Dreamcast. With certain games it just chuggs away quite loudly and it's quite annoying. But going that the GC a Ninty machine, i'm quite sure it'll be ok!

The Dreamcast is the loudest of the lot unless you put a cd based game in which spins at 24x WHOA!!!!!!!!!

The dvd's run very quiet at 4x and when you press the eject button it automatically brings up the browser, sounds similar to the GC.

The rumble packs are dumb, especially the dreamcast with the rumble and vmu, just a wee bit heavy if you know what i mean and as for the dual shock it's classic, very strong but the light vibes can buzz yes. heard anyone complain??

I'm not gona buy the wavebird because no doubt the batteries won't last for heavy gaming.

Does the PS2 have a really loud large engine inside cos it sounds like it does.

Yes, I read about this on another post, but brought up the 'Which is best, Gamecube or PS2 argument again', which is getting very annoying.
If people are going to support a certain console, fine, but why put others down?

I just read on IGN.com that the GameCube will have a fail safety mechanism.

If you open the lid mid game, the disc and game will pause but when you push the lid back down the game plays off from the exact position you were in before.

If you put another game in the GameCube will detect this and tell you to put in the original disc.

With Luigi's mansion the game will continue to play until the the GameCube runs out of memory and then it freezes.
