I am thinking a home intranet could be useful, however...
The computers in use are on two different routers, for two different broadband lines.
Can I link the computer(s) on router B to the server PC which is on router A? If so, I'd love a walkthrough.
Many thanks.
Neil
From Computer 1.
Change the LAN IP of router 1 to 192.168.1.1. Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Reboot router and save.
Set a manual IP on computer 1.
IP Address 192.168.1.10
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 192.168.1.1
Now log back into router 1 and change the DHCP scope to 192.168.1.50 to 192.168.1.100
From computer 2
Change the LAN IP of router 2 to 192.168.1.2. Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Reboot router and save.
Set a manual IP on computer 2.
IP Address 192.168.1.20
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.2
DNS 192.168.1.2
Now log back into router 2 and change the DHCP scope to 192.168.1.150 to 192.168.1.200
Connect both routers together with a Cat5 network cable. A straight through cable will work if the routers auto configure the ports. If they don’t you will need a crossover cable or connect both via a switch.
Both computers will now go out to the internet via the correct router and both are now on the same network. You will need to set them up as the same workgroup.
