Both Fifa and ISS games are considered the heavy weights of the football games on Playstation, however, sadly for me it seems that previous Fifa games seem still to top the charts with there flashy looks, real player names and arcade style play where as the ISS games always went for the superb realistic play over visuals. However ISS Pro Evo 2 came along and with many more people knowing about it, the game topped the charts, until yet another update of the fifa series came out. Now though the two heavy weights are prepairing for a fight as the two soon to be coming to PS2 in the form of Pro Evolution Soccer and Fifa 2002, this is how they look at first impressions:

Pro Evolution Soccer:
For the PS2 version the ISS has been dropped, but remember this is the ISS you want. First impressions about the graphics are good, they look so smooth and are built up with loads of detail. The stadiums look stunning as do the players, there are some really good life like ones such as beckham and Seaman. All the players and team names should all be correct this time if that bothered you, there has also been some talk of the pitch being a little bigger enabling some good build up play and more ways of scoring. The AI has also been improved making the game even more realistic than ever before. The game looks great, just hope they sort out the commentary.

Fifa 2002:
The Graphics from 2001 on PS2 looked amazing and 2002 does aswell, better in some cases. To try and top the charts once again, relising that the might Pro Evo is coming out, this Fifa will play like no other before it. More accuracy is now needed to pass the ball, short and long meaning pin point passed will no longer be as easy as sayint the alphabet, the player now has to control the angle of the ball and make sure the power is correct for a good shot or pass. The AI is suppose to have been improved also making the game more realistic therefor moving away from the arcade style. It is possible to press a button to see where your players are running to so you can plan your method of attack. Hopefully too the improvments are vast compared to the arcade 2001, which was still enjoyable, just not ad much as ISS Pro Evo 2.

With both games trying to top the charts, there should be masses of improvments over the precious games. The question is though, which are you going to spend your hard earned money on. With Fifa you are certain to get slick visuals and all the latest stats, but will the gameplay match. With Pro Evo you get the best gameplay there is on any console, which is why im getting it, although i will end up getting both probally.

I also have Fifa 2001 on the PS2, but dont like the ease of scoring I like it to be hard, and putting it on world class doesn't help either its still to easy to score.
I didnt get the first ISS on PS2 because they said it was no improvement and so I decided to wait. And im proud to say the wait is nearly over. Pro Evo Soccer is on its way.

Yeah, there is no reason why you cant like Fifa, its an arcade game, and many of you enjoy them. Its main appeal maybe the easy to score part, and most probally club teams.

However, if like me, your a football fanatic, you will most probally prefer the realism of ISS, it allows you to perform all the build up play like in the real thing, and offers a lot more lastability.

Saying that though, you can be a Footie fanatic and like Fifa, i own 2001 on PS2, and play it every so often. Mainly because the graphics are better than Evo 2 on PS1.

Well said.

I've also come to realise that Fifa is an arcade style game but it still allows international and club competition, something that ISS lacks. Now ISS has real names I am beggining to lean more towards ISS, but still enjoy Fifa.

Like I've said before, im getting both anyway.
Problem solved.

ISS games have always been about realism, and for years Konami have achieved this. They have in that case the most experiance in this genre and know what the game needs and where it could be improved. With every new ISS that is released (not the first ps2 version) the game has always got better and will continue to get better.

EA have always gone for the arcade version, even the mega drive games bear some resemblence to this. You may say that the mega drive was not powerfull enough to make it realistic, but ISS managed it on snes, and the 1 apperence on Mega Drive. Just looking at the dvd in PSW you can still see the arcade elements of Fifa 2002. The players still can control the ball perfect everytime, they can even chest a ball coming 80mph from a shot, not to mention chest a ball when there back is to it. The ball too still acts unrealistic. Players can boot the ball all way up the field while stood still! Which is nearly impossible.

People now are recognising what fifa really is, and arcade game, and are now coming to recognise the true colours of the ISS series. Be sure, Fifa is going to have to be a total make over to beat Pro Evo.

The answer is, of course Pro Evo can outplay Fifa.

Its a close battle between Fifa 2002 and Pro Evo Soccer this year but to be honest Pro Evo wins by just an whisker.

This year Fifa goes big and plans to stand up to Pro Evo Soccer and be the best. But will it succeed. Fifa always outsells Iss but can it outplay? Thats the question everyone should be asking.

So can it?

someone told me about it.

Apparantly they got a total mark out of 100. Pro Evolution got 80/100, and Fifa 2002 got 75/100.

That about sums it up really, eh?

They did it by using something like 10 different headings, i.e: Atmosphere = ?/10.

Pro Evolution will be unbeatable.
