It's probably because Japan is on the brink of recession and everyone is in a sombre mood.
Nintendo couldn't have picked a worse day to launch....

Yeah. I was looking forward to hear about the massive lines of Japanese gamers fighting to get a console. Lots of pictures of extatic gamers etc.
People will probably continue to buy in big numbers, but was the launch was underhyped?
The number of games doesn't seem to effect launch sales. I think there were only 3 or 4 games with the PS2 launch in Japan... Hardcore gamers will buy the latest Ninty machine because it's just that - the latest Ninty machine - and it's only hardcore gamers that line up on launch day.
I think Ninty haven't built up enough hype.
I'm sure it will make slow, but steady progress though!

Seems a bit pathetic to me.

I hope there's more for when it's released over here, otherwise I may have to get an XBox instead...
