Bought "I care because You Do" yesterday.

Almost back to normal now, not quite so afraid to turn on the radio or go outside.
Jesus Christ..why has nobody told me about this guy?
"Ventolin" is an astonishing track, absolute fury distilled into music. "Icct Hedral", another track that blew me away.
But "Ventolin"....
*shiver*

It's the coldest, hardest and shinest sound you can imagine.
Reminded me of surgical steel implements and invasive surgery.
I don't know, just got under my skin and bothered me.
Also got 2 of his videos, directed by Chris Cunningham.
Evil. That's the best word to describe them.

"Come to Daddy" some kids all with his face, a demon thing screaming into an old woman's face and just horrific imagery that fits the music.

"Windowlicker"
Pastiche of the hip-hop vidoes, all semi-naked women dancing.Except they all have evil faces.

Compliments the music so well, but Aphex Twin (Richard D James) is not a man I wish to meet after dark.
If you like extreme music, be it Slipknot or anything else, then get Aphex Twin to see that dance music is more than that charts.
I don't really know much dance, I dont count the stuff in the chart anymore than the chart rock bands represent that genre.

The good stuff never hits the airwaves, but Aphex Twin should do. I'd love to hear Ventolin on Radio 1 Breakfast.

Fila Brazillia and Coldcut are both abstract hip hop-style people (superior fore-runners of the Big Beat scene). This is the kind of thing that comes out on Ninja Tune (best record label in the world) and Mo Wax.

Aphex Twin is far more experimental, bizarre, violent and picturesque! I'd recommend Aphex Twin's "Richard D. James" LP which is probably even better than the LP you've mentioned.

For more great experimental dance muic I'd strongly recommend you check out u-ziq (or mu-ziq, the u is supposed to be a greek letter). Very bizarrre and equally wonderful, with better breakbeats (think Photek-esque drum and bass). The album before his latest is his best, the new one is a bit more experimental.

See also Omni Trio, David Holmes, Tek-9, Squarepusher, DJ Shadow, Photek, DJ Food etc. etc.

I remember the first time I saw the 'Come to Daddy' video a couple of years back. I was like 'What the Hull is this?'. Very disturbing video, almost an updated version of the stuff Pink Floyd used to do.

'Windowlicker' is freaky, but funny at the same time. Especially all his umbrella moves :-).

I think I've got some Cold Cut as well somewhere - similar kind of stuff again.

I'll have a look this evening and email you either tonight, or first thing tomorrow.

Goatyboy, I've got some Aphex Twin stuff as well, in does indeed Rock mightily, but in a Dance way. If you see what I mean...

This is the sort of stuff I was talking about when I was defending Dance music so much a couple of weeks back.

Also, if you like Ahex Twin, you might want to check out Fila Brazilla as well.

I can do you a CD of a couple of tracks if you want....

But I don't think the pap that gets played is representative of dance music, I'm pretty ignorant about that genre.

No more than rock is Limp Bizkit, OPM and Papa Roach.
Those that listen to that music probably sneer at the crap that breaks Top-40 and get annoyed because we all think that dance is Kosheen and "21 Seconds", when I'm willing to bet that there is all sorts of dance out there I don't even know exists.

Same as rock.
"Ah yeah, Limp Bizkit..rock sucks"
"Yes, but what about Clutch, Sepultura (Max-era), Pantera, Biohazard etc"
"er...Limp Bizkit sucks, therefore rock sucks"

No, it just means that that toilet chart lets the biggest, stupidest bands from each style get known and we all judge all that type on the moron songs.
I would no more want some dance-fan thinking I like Limp Bizkit because I'm into rock than they'd like me saying "Dance music? Crap mate, just listen to the chart"

One thing did cheer me up though, the Virgin Album chart?
Most of the top 30 are rock based, or at least bands that play and care as opposed to Steps and all that other Corporate Karaoke nonsense.

Slipknot, Stained, OPM, Alien Ant Farm, David Gray, System of a Down...nice to see some decent music being bought at last.

And Aphex Twin rock harder than Limp Bizkit.

Quality music. Shows that the dance scene is not 100% chunder, just about 99.7%.
