As I have been trying to increase traffic to my website, I've been trying out a variety of different (free) ways to do so. I have come across Link Referral.

Basically it works on a concept of internet window shopping - a link directory that encourages members to visit other members' sites and review them. This in turn increases their own page rank within the directory and increases the amount of traffic heading your way.

I say it's like window shopping because some of the sites are of no interest, but occasionally you come across one that is a pure gem (and for once I'm not saying it is my own). I have discovered a range of blogs of relevant interest, as well as some with lots of information that I would have never come across.

I've only been a member for a few days, but already have received 30+ hits (and I'm not a very proactive member of the site!)

So freeola, not sure how this could fit into your marketing manifest, but it may be something you might consider signing up to and spending 10 minutes a day fiddling with - those predicted 30-60 hits a day may turn into 30-60 customers/forum users...

I was always under the impression that these kind of things were unnatural and therefore a bit risky in that it might been seen as a bad thing by Google. Then again I can't find anything to back this up after a quick Google search so what the hell!

If it is free and gives the results I am after then I'm happy to give it a shot.

Sorry, just noticed this. Thanks for pointing it out and have now removed the offending site id. Cheers Garin :)

Also, it's becoming too much work to keep surfing all the time... I've captured a few repeat visitors, so I think I'm going to leave it there...

You do love a good pyramid scheme eh, HM?

Btw, your link includes your site id and thus you benefit from people clicking. Not declaring this is considered very bad netiquette in some quarters.

Update. Despite the initial look of a spammy site - I am actually getting some great referrals from it! It's also increased my reputation in the paranormal field, making it easier for me to get places to investigate.

I'm not saying all traffic is good - you do get a lot of 5 second visits, but I am seeing some repeat custom from it and the feedback other members leave is actually really constructive (in fact - almost constructive as the feedback you provide Hmmm... almost...)

Obviously it takes effort to build the traffic and there are other ways about doing it (probably more effective as well, but I'm slowly getting around to finding them) but for a newbie starting out and finding out about the world of the net, it's been a great help.

Perhaps, but at the same time, have found quite a few helpful blogs to aid with the development of my site - as well as people more familiar with the subject than I am. I think I'll see how it goes.

A check on analytics this morning showed loads of crawling google visits...whether or not this is a good thing or not, I don't know (with all bouncing and spending a grand total of 0 seconds...)

I'm not familiar with this site, but having had a quick look round it does look rather spammy...

Google and Co. also look at the 'neighbourhood' your links come from - so this might be something to think about.
