The "Freeola Customer Forum" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
Basically it works on a concept of internet window shopping - a link directory that encourages members to visit other members' sites and review them. This in turn increases their own page rank within the directory and increases the amount of traffic heading your way.
I say it's like window shopping because some of the sites are of no interest, but occasionally you come across one that is a pure gem (and for once I'm not saying it is my own). I have discovered a range of blogs of relevant interest, as well as some with lots of information that I would have never come across.
I've only been a member for a few days, but already have received 30+ hits (and I'm not a very proactive member of the site!)
So freeola, not sure how this could fit into your marketing manifest, but it may be something you might consider signing up to and spending 10 minutes a day fiddling with - those predicted 30-60 hits a day may turn into 30-60 customers/forum users...
Yeah, building up some good links across the UK now - helping one group's team leader form a business by supplying some of the advertising and managing to get to go on free investigations, so all is good.
And everyone is impressed with the website - and it wouldn't have started without the free .info and InstantPro ;)
That and keep the content crisp and fresh like my underwear.
EDIT: Done...
Although quite happy I picked up some decent visitors and some feedback for the site - which has been implemented (and looks a bit better). Luckily never got involved with having a link to them on my pages, so just a case of closing the account.
Garin does have a point - now I'm reading about it and looking at things, many sites are indeed going against the Google Guidelines. I'd rather stay as clean as I can and can happily say I'm glad to be away from the site.
Thanks all :)

Well when HM first posted the site, I looked at its pagerank and it was 6 (its 4 now). I'm not sure how much Google (or any other search engine) goes in for blacklisting or punishing websites anymore.

You can call me Luke, someone just grabbed that user before my existence here at Freeola. Sure, I'm fixing some other GAD related issues at the moment however.
Hi LukeM,
Now you're back from your hols, when you come to look at the forum 'backslash' issue could you also take a look at links in quoted posts?
See your last post for an example of where my links are split over two lines...

My saviour!! That was what I was looking for.
Google do say this:
Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.
And more on Link schemes...
