So, I'm looking to set up Xbox Live in my bedroom, and I figure the most cost effective way of doing so would be to use Internet Connection Sharing. I've got broadband, a router downstairs plugged into which is my Dad's PC (downstairs) and my PC (upstairs).

How does it work? What do you need to connect the Xbox and PC? Can you get wireless Xbox broadband adaptors yet?

Ta!

I used to use ICS, and apart from having to have the PC plugged in and on I can say it's no different performance wise to my set up now, with the Xbox using a direct connetion through a router/modem.

As yet there is a US Robotics Wireless setup that can be used with Xbox Live, but after experiencing the horror that was trying to use a US roboticsrouter/modem I'd stay well clear of it, especially at the price. Try ICS, and then upgrade later if you want to.

However, Official Xbox Magazine issue 22 had the news that Microsoft is near to launching an Official Xbox Live Wireless Adapter - the MN-740 and the magazine, whilst having no official date, expects a release before Christmas.

LOL, I wasn't taking the mick. I just didn't picture you living with your parents, is all. My fault for being narrow-minded.

I thought I was a lazy bas*ard! Just use ICS. Skip the router and use ICS. Its not that much of a hassle and I don't notice that my PC is on when playing LIVE.

Aha, but that would mean doing some hard work. It would have to go through about four doors and up the stairs. There's currently a hole drilled through my study ceiling, threaded through the airing cupboard, up into the loft then down into my bedroom. Fantastically, there's not room for another wire to go through it.

*slaps forehead*

And I'm only 22, not that freakish an age to live with parents, surely? Anyway, I'm moving out next year and taking my XBOX WITH ME!!!1

Unless the router is only 1 port then you will need ICS which is easy. Get a network card in both PCs if you havent got them. Plug in a Cross over CAT5 cable in to both network cards. And then in the internet properties of your Dads PC allow Internet Connection Sharing.

5 metre Ethernet cross over cable is what I use to connect my Xbox to the PC.

I use ICS. 10/100 network card and a simple setup process. That is of course providing you have a network card.

Not that it's relevant, but I didn't picture you as someone who lived with their parents.

How racist.
