Ok here is my attempt at winning GAD.

Do people really take notice of the age rating on games, are sure you don't as many of you have probably a horror game, like Resident Evil series, and these games have a age rating, for instance Resident evil games have a age 18+ age rating, so this is saying that we should not be able to buy these games if we are under that age.

I mean its not like after playing Resident Evil we are gonna go out buy a gun and start shooting people that look like the dead. (It would be fun though) but we just wouldn't do that.

Most games though have a age 15+ for swearing in games like Metal Gear Solid, which to me is stupid because I am sure that everyone will agree that we have all seen a TV programme with swearing in it, whats the big deal, everyone swears from time to time.

The age ratings to me are stupid for some games, take for instance a wrestling game, they have about a 15+ on them because of the weapons, fighting and stuff like that, I mean all my friends have got Smackdown 1,2 or they have No Mercy, me I have Smackdown 1, 2, and getting WWF Smackdown: JBI.

People are thinking that games influence that much that we are gonna get a gun after buying a game with a gun or some other kind of weapon and start being a crazed phsycopath. GAMES DO NOT INFLUENCE US THAT MUCH!

The point is that nearly everyone has probably got a game that is over their age limit according to the age rating on games and people should stop thinking that games make us crazy and enjoy gaming.

I hope SR noticed this and i hope you all agree with me, feel free to disagree

No, due to the fact that ELPSA, the aga rating "authority", is run by a bunch of full time mothers, evangelists and other softies.

I pay strict attention to age ratings.

I won't buy anything rated Nintendo or younger...

If games don't influence people 'that much', how come there are those of us that devote our entire lives to conquest in Counter Strike, whole communities revolve around multi-player online games, websites are shrines to certain games, and there are more websites popping up every day?

If games don't influence people 'that much', how come there is a Wrestling Forum?

If games don't influence people 'that much', how come the console wars topics on here are so vehemently argued?

If games don't influence people 'that much', how come I'm taking time out from my regular life to write on here?

Shape up or ship out soldier.

Heh. Ther's no point putting age ratings on games, because when the child gets to an age where the parent is past caring what they're watching/playing/listening to they will buy the film/game/CD for them!

You shouldn't really say that!

Surprising not very many games have an 18+ rating. Resident Evil doesn't have an age rating of 18, all three RE games to date have a rating of 15, even silent hill 1 and 2 and Dino Crisis 1 and 2 have an age rating of 15. Not even Hostile Waters which not only has realistic violence in it (you see FHM's of people ripped to pieces) but they language isn't anything nice either. You repeatedly hear the F word more than once. The only game i've got which is an 18 is Carmageddon and the graphics on that are really pants!

Yes, but we do have a watershed, which only allows programmes with certain levels of violence and/or swearing to be shown after a certain time. You don't have the teletubbies telling each other to **** off after recovering from a late night alcohol, cigarette and sex binge. So rating games on their swearing is stupid.....have you played Kingpin? Not only is there graphic violence but the swearing is fast and furious. Would you be happy letting a 10 year old playing this game, which they properly do anyway but, hey it's not my problem.
Everybody has heard swearing at one time and another and everybody does swear now and again but would you swear in front of small children and little kids?
When certain swears word are said, even if they only say the word once, the age rating is increased as kids are more likely to swear than shoot somebody.

Yes, age ratings for some games are just plain stupid but you have to take into account how real the violence is. With wrestling (although, it is fake!) there is a warning saying "Don't Try This At Home". Why you ask? Well some moves not only could leave you paralysed, they could also kill you. With wrestling these guys train everyday and know of the risks involved. Although it may sound a bit daft, there is a certain technique to smashing a chair over somebody's head and some of the moves have to be done in a certain way so they aren’t killed. For example the Pile Drive (picking a guy up, putting him between your legs the smashing the top of his skull into the ground) is a lethal move. If this is done in real live you end up paralysed or dead, most of the time dead as this move has a high chance of breaking your neck and/or spine. When wrestlers do this move they make sure that the guy's head doesn't touch the floor and that he just acts hurt. Same with all the other moves they do. It's all acting!

People are

THAT MUCH!!! yeah, try not at all but there are some people who do think it does. Like they think that after listening to Marilyn Manson you go and shot up a school or perform a ritual killing on a nun with two mates. People are all to quick to blame the most covenant thing rather than find the real problem. Have you ever read the Bible? It's incredible violent and seedy in some places, but when somebody is killed by being crucified it's not the bibles fault its Marilyn Manson's because he talks about it all the time!!! But these games are rated so at least the parents can see what the game contains. I'm sure a lot of people wouldn’t like their 10 year old playing Max Payne.

I bought Doom for the Mac when i was 14, i bought Carmageddon when i was 16 and even now when i play violent games when some body else sees its "that's sick" or "that's nasty" but hey "it's only a game"
In a world where the majority parents would rather let the TV and the latest games console raise their kids instead of doing it themselves some parents are concerned about what games contain. Kids at a young age are highly impressionable and can be easily influenced.
Anyway that's my "political view" i don't care what age rating is slapped on a game or DVD. As long as it is a good game/film then i don't really care.

Anyway, I've not once been disallowed to buy a game by a shopkeeper or whatever. They're their to make a profit by selling games, it's very rare for them to turn down an attempt to purchase a game.

Plus, I get nearly all my stuff from mailorder. I only get second hand games from high street shops

I don't take any notice of the certificate. I see worse things everyday on the news then I ever will in a game. And what's more disturbing is the fact that the things I see on the news are REAL!
