It makes me sick.....

I flicked on Sky News today at 6:00pm to watch the headlines and the Main Headline was the most awful thing i have ever seen.

In Belfast, Northern Ireland, a group of Roman Catholic girls had to be escorted to school on their first day back as they where hounded and harassed by Protestant adults as they made their way down a Protestant part of Belfast to get to their school. About 200 Protestant protesters hurled abuse and spat at the children as they made their way to the school earlier in the day. Riot police and troops struggled to hold back the baying mob amid the appalling scenes. Protesters chanted "scum, scum, scum" as parents tried to shield their children from the hate.

The School is on a border line between a Protestant part of Belfast and a Roman Catholic part of Belfast. These kids walked along a main road (which is the shortest way to the school) which is in the Protestant part of Belfast. As they did so local Protestant adults shouted abuse at these kids who are only 4 to 6 years old. They where making threats to these kids and their parents. Their language was appalling, especially when used against kids of that age. Police in Riot Gear lined the street to protect the parents and the kids. The Police came under a lot of pressure from the angry Protestants and they regularly kicked the police and pushed them. The Police and media presence didn't stop the Protestant people from throwing missiles at the young school kids and their parents. One of the kids got hit by a brick and a Catholic woman was taken to hospital with a head wound.
When the report showed footage of this event it was shocking to say the least. All of these kids where scared out of their minds and where all in tears. It even had people leaning out of balcony's insulting them as they walked past.

The board of the school suggested that they use the alternative route to get to the school. But Ann Tanney, head of Holy Cross school, said the move could only be viewed as a temporary solution, and this is what she had to say about the suggestion:

"It isn't really an entrance to the school. It is a way through another school, across a pitch and through a narrow gate. It is not a long-term solution to the problem," she said. "We hope that in spite of all the terrible things that happened today that people will be able to come together and realise that.....children, Catholic and Protestant, have an absolute basic right to come to school without fear."

This is sickening. How can adults threaten children and their parents just because of their religion? I find it mind boggling and disturbing. These people should be ashamed of themselves for what they have done.

And if you thought that was bad, i had just found this article on the web:

An extreme loyalist group has warned Catholic parents and children they will be attacked for a second time if they return to a Protestant area on their way to school.

The Red Hand Defenders said parents 'would be dealt with' if they returned to the Ardoyne Road on Tuesday. Girls as young as four, many crying in terror, ran the gauntlet on Monday between protesters, army and riot police.

The news comes as the governors of Holy Cross Primary School urged parents to take an alternative route.

This is an example of how low the human race can get.....

It is true (if you believe in Christ etc.), and he also said something about turning the other cheek. But these days, if you do that, you just end up with both cheeks slapped.

That's very true, and is why I believe these people aren't proper Christians.

Also, no offence taken Wookiee.

There's been another bomb attack on school kids again today.

These people are just totally pathetic. I don't remember the Bible mentioning throwing bombs at your fellow man. How anyone can justify attempting to kill people for their beliefs is beyond me. Whether they are religious, political, racial or even the football team you support. Utter morons. The fact that it's kids being attacked just makes it worse. Quite often these kids will not have even had a chance to form their own beliefs anyway, they'll just be following their parents and elders.

If it's just for media exposure, don't they realise that just because your cause is being shown on TV, it doesn't mean people will suddenly support you for your heroic acts in trying to blow up kids. And if it's to put terror into your enemy, don't they think that their victims will either do their best to show no weakness, or just to retaliate? Especially with the law, and public opinion on the victims' side.

Yeah, I saw a news report tonight with grown men throwing stones and other missiles.

And this is a school for young girls, who are absolutely terrified and bewildered.

They must be real proud.

'Scum' doesn't even begin to describe them. In fact, I don't think there's a word degrading enough for the likes of them.

All this is, is people walking THROUGH the area to take their kids to school, then going away.

They don't actually have a problem with the school, or with the kids attending - apparently - just with the Catholics walking down the street to get there. Real mature.

One moron who the BBC interviewed said something like, "Our quarrel is not with the children, it's with the parents and other adults who are accompanying them."

Well, that's okay then. I'm sure the children will feel much better next time a pipe bomb goes off yards from them. You absolute frikkin IMBECILE. I have a probem with YOU, you half-wit, so I'm sure you'll have no objection if I lob a grenade at your kids to prove my point, eh?

They're no better than the Jews and Palestinians.

And this sort of crap is why I started the thread "I'm stupid, please feel sorry for me" (directed at the actions of those involved, not the posters on SR forums)

I feel a genuinely angry rant coming on, and it is not at anyone here, I need to go smoke and put the words into my head so I can vent.

goddamn, regressive apes.

...that some idiot has thrown a pipe bomb at the police as they protect the children.

What kind of mindless scum are these people?

Tradition condemns the future to the past.
These Protestant & Catholic (Christian) fools should explore the future with fresh eyes. Forgive, forget and move on.

The world isn't getting worse, this kind of thing has been happening in Northern Ireland for hundreds of years. It's just we know more about it now as we have more ways of getting information, my TV channels, the internet etc.

I know sod all about religin, I'm not religeous myself so I don't know the differences between PRotestants and Catholics. What I can see happening though is a bunch of stupid people doing what they believe is right because of tradition.

Tradition!? Who gives a fudge about that?

There is trouble in norhtern IReland every year. And why? Becuase someone said something "not nice" about 500 years ago.

It's pathetic!

Don't they have anything better to do than to harrass some poor kids who just want to get on in life? DOn't they have jobs? Families to look after? It would appear not, which is why they spend all their time standing in the middle of the road, causing hassle in the name of god.

It's stupid.

I'm not going to turn this into a religeous topic as this is more to do with innocent children being hassled and harangued for no good reason.

But as I said at the start, things lke this have been going on for years, it's just we know more about it now as it's on the news more.

Talking of news, did you know the Foot and Mouth crisis is still on?

Seems a coincedance to me that it seemed to disappear just before the election.....

No disrespect to Ant or any of the other Christians on these forums, but this is exactly what I meant when I said some time ago that religion causes more problems than it solves.

These people are causing distress to their own children, and they don't care.

I saw a news report last night where a little girl was walking along with her mother, in tears - she was terrified.

And these are young, impressionable children.

Likely result? These kids are mentally scarred for life, and grow up resenting/hating the 'other side'. So in 30 years time, when they have kids of their own, they cycle begins all over again.

In these cases, if the adults didn't intervene, the kids would get on just fine, I bet. The way this world is going, kids will have enough to worry about as they grow up; they could do without their parents baggage as well.
