Now before you begin to read, don't take anything here serious it all done for fun. You may need a good imagination to get through it all.
Ok here goes. Imagine that the main characters of some games were actually real people who lead normal lives and stared in the odd game now and then.
Take Mario and Luigi, two dodgy plumbers who spend most of the day working, well kind of working and driving around in their 3-wheeler going from job to job. You would expect them being Italian to dress with style and own a pizza place or a restaurant but not these two. Typical workmen these two, wolf-whistling at the fit birds, cheeks hanging out their jeans, that is until Nintendo call them in for their extra work making a few games allowing them to raise the extra money to take their wives and kids back to the native land of Italy to relax and fix the plumbing.
So why are they plumbers is what I would like to know? Maybe Mario was bullied as a child and didn't get much of an education (with a name like Mario Mario I wouldn't be surprised) so maybe he learned to be a plumber and his brother joined as he didn't know where he was going in life. Please note that the mushrooms taken in the game are not "magic mushrooms" and both have denied addiction to narcotics. Not only one of the biggest names in the gaming industry they have also tried their luck with a movie which was surprisingly ok to watch unlike most other game to movie conversions. Both are happily married and have two kids each who they plan to raise and get them involved in the gaming industry and also to be part-time plumbers.
Right that's enough about the Italian Stallions, who's next?
How about Miss Lara Croft.
What does her life outside of the limelight consist of? Well she explores and lives in a country house (she lives in a house a very big house in the country, she doesn't drink, smoke, laugh take herbal baths in the country... sorry got carried away) obviously daddy is a wealthy chap. She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, went to boarding school and then became an explorer. On her acres of land she has lots to keep her occupied, a large maze, assault course, swimming pools, quad bikes and lots of other luxuries. I would imagine she just sits at home with her butlers and her maids running around after her, occasionally some photographers get past security to try and get a sneaky picture of her in the shower but sadly for the millions of young children eagerly waiting they never seem to be able to get one. Most days she works out a little then with her friend Jordan the model they go into town and try get a little more up top for her next game. Lara also has to find out when to jet off round the world in search of some important item in order for her to make another game. Some reports say she is dead but that was a cover up from her last game to try and take all the attention away from her until her next big game. Recently she was in an action packed movie that failed to live up to the hype. Guess she will be staying indoors more now.
Sonic
Sonic is quite a quiet hedgehog when he isn't racing round collecting rings and trying to defeat the evil Robotnik (will he ever win?) he sits about in the forest with his animal friends. Sometimes ending up sleeping in stacks of wood before they are burned (check before you light your bonfire!) He is sometimes seen around built up areas crossing busy roads and visiting his relatives. He is yet to marry but has said that he plans to get hitched some day when he finds the right lady friend. Like others with similar jobs sonic is often called in for photo-shoots and signing autographs and also models some sportswear, sonic trainers could soon be on a shelf in a shop near you.
Sonic has many friends in the forest and they all look up to him, with his exceptional speed and jazzy trainers sonic to them is their hero. He is also unique as he is the first and only blue hedgehog at the moment. Had quite a battle with the Mario brothers to try and be the best game a few years ago. He boosted the mega-drive which used him as the main mascot.
Solid Snake
When he's not saving the world single handily what does he get up too? Well not a lot as he does spend a lot of time saving us all from large nuclear weapons. He is sometimes spotted doing a fair bit of exercise keeping himself in shape for his next mission. Occasionally he is spotted with a lady named Meryl (if you didn't save her in the game then maybe its her sister) Together they sneak around large factories looking for weapons and guards to sneak up on. Snake isn't much of a family man as his only brother is pure evil and he is unsure if he has a mother and father. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his next big game, which is due at the end of the year. He is set to make a lot of money and may take time of from saving the world to have a well-deserved holiday.
Donkey Kong
Some games he was a good guy some he was bad, there is no telling with this big guy. He doesn't appear that often anymore. Donkey Kong spends a lot of time at the Zoo where he sits in a large cage for people to look at. Sometimes he tries to snatch ladies who look like princesses from the crowd but there is always a small fat plumber man there to save them. (Quite strange) Once king of the jungle he spends most days eating bananas and his gaming experiences have taught him that throwing barrels isn't always the best idea, he may make a comeback in the near future if the zoo will release him. There is also talk or releasing him back to the wild
Zelda
What can be said about this small sword-swishing hero. He seems to do most things in his game, what could he possibly do in his spare time? He spends a lot of time at home with the wife and kids, Saturday afternoons are spent watching his local football team. Zelda also helps out with running his wives grocery store. They live in a small cottage on the outskirts of the forest and he regularly takes walks through the forest with his children. When he is needed he is always not to far away and enjoys working on game after game. He is currently working on a game and also helping to promote Nintendo's latest console.
Duke Nukem
There is no change with this guy, what you see in the game is what his real life is like. Spends a lot of time with his numerous lady friends (Miss Croft being one of them). He is an alcoholic, a womaniser, and a role model to many teenage boys. Sometimes he is called to save the universe from aliens and save numerous go-go dancers and strippers along the way. Ohh how I envy this guy. Behind all this image Duke (who's real name is Cuthbert) is actually quite a nice bloke, when he isn't away making games and saving the universe he lives at home with his parents. Sometimes he sneaks out for a wild night with the ladies and a lot of drink but he makes sure he is never late home and always able to get up on time for breakfast.
Duke has a part-time job in the local fast food place, he takes orders and cleans tables to earn some extra cash to pay for his wild party nights.
Crash Bandicoot
He hasn't been around for a while, but he's on his way back with yet another 3-D platformer. He has spend a long time away from games trying to overcome an addiction to drugs (and you though his behaviour in his last game was normal?) with the help of his sister Coco he has managed to kick his addiction and is ready to promote his new game for the PS2. Like Sonic Crash also lives in the forest (they are quite friendly) and rumours are that sonic is dating his sister Coco.

Tough Enough
For those who have never seen the program it's about people in a competition to try and earn a contract with the World Wrestling Federation.
This one is slightly different though, this time its to see who is tough enough to be part of the next resident evil game as a secret hidden character.
We join it at the final stage with only four contestants left
Lara Croft, Solid Snake, Mario Mario and Link.
Lara
The judges are quite impressed. She has good physical and mental ability and tries to work hard. Her only problem is she is a little arrogant and "daddies" intervention at the early stages by trying to bribe the judges could cost her the job. She has encountered many enemies in her past but nothing as freaky and mind-blowing as what she could expect if she landed this job.
Snake
He works hard but also plays hard. Has been found a few times in the pub when he should be at training. He has all the abilities required and could be a huge star again if he could only get rid of his drinking habits. He has a huge fan base that want to see him succeed but most probably don't know about his personal problems.
Mario
Mario is a little on the small side and last week was caught using some kind of "magic mushroom" which the judges weren't to pleased with. He said it made him bigger and stronger and that with them he could change the way the game was played. After serious discussions Mario was disqualified. The judges didn't see it as a great loss as Mario refused to use the weapons and adopted to jump on the zombies heads all the time. There is no way he would have survived the likes of the Tyrant.

This little Lad …… ohh wait he has just became a man (something weird there) Would go down well in the game except he is scared to bits of things that go bump in the night which almost certainly means even if he wins he will turn the prize down. He brought his own unique collection of gadgets and weapons which the judges really liked, some were a little too odd though.
After training this week the judges went into a room and attempted to pick the winner. They also gave their own reasons why the others didn't win.
WINNER
Solid Snake
"His abilities couldn't be matched by any of the others, since day one he tried his best (well the days he turned up sober), also the fans love him and would love to see him included." After the final show Snake was rushed out the back entrance and took to a clinic to try and get him to kick his alcohol addiction.
Lara
"Not because you are a woman, ok it is but also we don't like you. You are a daddies girl who probably has never done a real job in your life. You are a real pain in the **beep** and we are real sorry you didn't make it (yeah right)"

"Came a very close second, it was his appearance that let him down and also he isn't as physically adapted to this time of game as the others." Link was real glad he didn't win and as soon as the show ended he packed his things and headed for home to be with his wife.
Not long after things took a weird twist. On the first day of making the game Snake was found outside the studio lying drunk in the gutter. An official meeting was called and Snake was fired. So the developers thought long and hard about what to do and decided that the extra character would be. ……. Duke Nukem. Although he wasn't even in the competition the others were rubbish and Duke was always the one they wanted. The game is currently in the process of completion and is promised to have a lot of things that Duke wants for his secret part. (Looks like the usual then, strippers and pigs).
We then checked up on the other losing finalists to see how they were getting on.
At Lara's mansion we couldn't get past the main gate, too many guards and guard dogs but we managed to get her on the phone here is what she said. " Arrghh you lot. I hate you, I hate you. I never needed your stinking game anyway (it is here she starts to cry) DADDY! Make them change their mind." The phone then goes silent and a voice says "Miss Croft is no longer able to take this call, good day."

We sat in his quiet little cottage and had afternoon tea with him and his wife. He discussed that he was glad he wasn't picked and he was making his own game soon. His wife was also expecting their child and said that this would have been a reason he couldn't have taken the job if he won.

It took us a while to find him but eventually we did. He was in jail. He refused to comment as to why or how he ended up in jail but we did manage to get this comment from his brother Luigi "Mario was caught possessing certain material which is banned in this country, we use it in our pizzas all the time so why should it be banned? It makes us big and strong." Mario faces the judge next month.

Ok here are some more characters for you to imagine that they lead normal lives.
Toad
When he isn't driving his kart furiously around the track with Mario and the others you can usually find this little mushroom headed star at one of the biggest clubs in town. Toad is a top class DJ and has a huge fan base away from gaming. His name probably comes from Toadstool the big wild mushrooms. DJ Toad is well respected for his musical talents and it is a job that he loves to do.
He currently lives in a large flat with a group of friends and if he isn't working on a game or DJ'ing then he is usually at home playing games with his mates or out for a night on the town. Similar in size to Star wars star Yoda Toad has learned that physical size or looks doesn't matter and if you try hard then you can succeed. Also when he is in trouble he can just duck down and appear to look just like a normal toadstool. The rumours that Mario tried to take a bite out of him on a drunk night out are true although it didn't cause him to much damage.
Abe
Due to the fact he can't speak and looks quite odd it is hard for Abe to lead what most would call a normal life. Also the fact he has decided to work for the X-box rather than the PS2 means he has lost a lot of fans and friends, hopefully he will make more though. We just have to wait and see. He lives in the forest and is treated like an outcast because he is different. He has a few friends who visit him from time to time but other than that he is usually alone.
Claire Redfield
Having kicked zombie butt on many occasions and finally rescuing her brother Chris Claire decided to take a well-deserved break. She decided to take her brother on a long vacation before they had to come back and jump back into zombie blasting action. After the trip she decided to get a part-time job to earn a little extra cash before her next gaming adventure. Claire now works in the local video store and enjoys watching all the latest films and old classics. Claire also used to work as a stripper before she was took on as a game character and says that is was a good experience and that some of the men that came to watch her were similar to some of the zombies that she had encountered ("brain dead freaks"). Claire also used to be quite friendly with Lara Croft but when Lara became obsessed with Fame and money the two had a huge fight and haven't spoke since.
Yoshi
After helping Mario and then getting a game of his own he has decided to take things a little easier. He has bought a house with his girlfriend and they plan on having kids sometime soon. People who don't know him treat him differently. He does look a little odd and similar to some dinosaurs, but as we all know its what you have got inside that counts. Likes to go out clubbing and is usually found at clubs watching and listening to his friend toad when he is playing. Yoshi also likes go-karting and with toad, Mario and Luigi they all go to a local track and battle it out on a Sunday afternoon, unless one of them has had a rough night and is too drunk to make it. Yoshi also likes to baby-sit for Mario and Luigi to allow them to be able to go out with their wives and have a little bit of quiet fun.
Gabe Logan
The secret agent that can take down terrorists single handedly is actually a ballet dancer teacher when he isn't making games showing himself saving the world. He prances around the dance studio teaching children and adults the fine details in becoming a professional dancer. Goes to show that ballet isn't just for "certain" people. Gabe says there is no better way of keeping in shape and it is actually very fun to do. He is happily married and when he isn't dancing or away he likes to sit down at home with the wife and watch films and tv. He loves all the big soaps and the wife must tape them all when he is away or there will be trouble.

I got the idea kind of from DDP and from one of my friends, he carries on alot and says this quite alot to us after a few drinks.
