It´s true! Liverpool are interested in a new Goalkeeper because of Westerveld´s blunder against Bolton.

You think Liverpool need a new Goalkeeper? I don´t!!!

Write in and tell.

It does seem strange - £14 million on two keepers when in all fairness we are not that desperate!! Still it puts things in perspective a bit - One mistake and your out!! Shame because Ive always had faith in Westervelt and he has been an important factor in our treble, charity sheild and super cup victories!!

Yeah i just read it myself.

I don´t think that kirkland will be Liverpools first keeper so it looks like Houllier have faith in Westerveld after all(i hope).

Liverpool have signed Chris Kirkland from Coventry for a British transfer record for a goalkeeper, after a move for Jerzy Dudek collapsed.

Sky Blues manager Gordon Strachan had wanted to keep the 20-year-old at Highfield Road, but with The Reds offering a figure reported to be between £6million - £8million, the Division One club could not refuse.

Coventry chairman Bryan Richardson told Sky Sports: "Very reluctantly, we have agreed to accept an offer from Liverpool for Chris Kirkland. The offer, which breaks the British transfer fee record for a goalkeeper, was accepted as a consequence of relegation from the FA Premier League.

Kirkland will be eligible for Liverpool's Champions League campaign as the deal was signed before the midnight deadline. Coventry's second-choice keeper Magnus Hedman - whose future had been in some doubt - will now take his place.

Reds manager Gerard Houllier was desperate to sign a new keeper following the recent poor form of current number one Sander Westerveld. The 26-year-old Dutchman's error against Bolton last Monday handed The Trotters an unlikely 2-1 win, costing Liverpool valuable points in the Premiership, and Houllier will not want a repeat in the league or European competition.

Dudek had looked certain to move to Anfield from his present club Feyenoord in a £5million deal, but the Poland international failed a medical and the deal collapsed, prompting Liverpool to turn their attentions to Coventry's highly-rated youngster Kirkland.

It doesnt hurt to have a bit of competition - However how many times can you afford to make a mistake?? Once is enough especially in the Premiership. Im not slating Westervelt, he has done brilliantly since joining its just one silly mistake can cost you your place!!
