I was wondering, I've got 256Mb RAM and a 64Mb Radeon 9200 Pro Gfx card. If I got 256 or 512Mb more RAM, would it make a big difference in the performance of my PC when it comes down to playing games like Call of Duty (bear in mind the Russian levels)?

Not really much difference in my opinion. I've recently upgraded to 512Mb from 256. The only difference I found was the GTA VIce City "Loading" screen during the game appeared less frequently.

Very little difference in general speed though.

In my experience, extra RAM doesn't make as big a difference as the price implies. It's usually worth upgrading your CPU and trading in your old one for a more effective performance boost.

Well I have a P4 3Ghz w/ 1GB of PC3200 RAM, and the demo of Beyind Good & Evil is still glitchy.

It's the CPU that executes instructions. The RAM sort of keeps things in a place it can access at lightning speeds, so like games and stuff it can keep al the stuff it's using in the RAM so it doesn't have to go back to the HD. I think anyway. That's what I learnt from basic theory AS level computing :p

I put an extra gig or so RAM onto my PC and it ran like an Ethiopian with his @rse on fire.

Basically, if you have more RAM, then the computer can follow instructions and execute them more quickly because there is more storage space for memory that doesen't need to be saved.

Thank God for basic theory GCSE IT. Unless I got it wrong. :)

To put it simply....yes.

When I bought my system I only had 256mb of ram aswell, with that extra tad of RAM (512mb) everything ran quite considerably faster, and I should imagine games would gain a sweet juicy performance increase.

Best place for RAM in my opinion: -
