I am getting a new graphics card and the place I am getting it from has a 128MB and a 256MB Radeon 9600. The 256MB card is only £8 more expensive but I was thinking why is there only £8 difference? have they left something off the 256MB card or what? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Athlon 64s dont come in 3Ghz yet, there something like 2.2Ghz, but are comparable to 3Ghz P4, so thats why they are 3000 64 or 3200 64.

If you getting a Althon 64 why not get a better graphics card? Obviously you have a nice bit of cash being pumped into the system so why not pump in another £100 or so and get a 9800 Pro or XT?

Yes big differences. Speed on both the CPU and memory is faster, plus the 9800's have double the pipelines. So what does this mean over twice the performance, sometimes 3x the performance in some situations. Don't forget a 9800 Pro is probably 3x the price of a 9600, so for the money difference you need to expect a lot of differences in the performance of the 2 chipsets.

9600 Pro deals with Halflife 2 pretty well and can run it at a decent resolution and at a nice framerate. Doom 3 should be ok as well. Depending on the rest of your system you should be able to play these very well on 800x600, and then okish on 1024x768.

Yeah that's a decent enough card, more than enough to do graphical animation at uni.

I just bought a new custom built pc coz im gonna be doing graphical animation at Uni, and i'll be needing a decent card. The pcs also coming with a 9600 radeon 256, which is..... nice :)

Also i'm hoping that HL2 and Doom3 will look like liquid sex on my pc with my 9600.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Wonderful...
... and so easy-to-use even for a technophobe like me. I had my website up in a couple of hours. Thank you.
