No i dont think i am being a bit harsh the quality of the other teams has increased greatly and although they have had a bad start i think this will be a poor season throught out with united third, arsenal second or first with chelsea

But funny, all the same! :-)
What we must remember about this season is that Manchester United have only played 3 games. It is a little too soon to start talking about disappointing seasons. In my opinion United's biggest problem is not physical, but mental. It is not that United have defensive problems but that United are so used to wining they believe themselves to be invincible. If we just look at David Beckham's comment about winning every game this season to see the confidence the team have in themselves. I'm sure you'll agree that this is a bad thing. The break has erased any memories the players have of losing, and only seem to remember the victory in the Premier League. United believe they can win every game, so simply are not trying.
With this summers' additions to the squad I'm certain United could be strong enough to become champions yet again, but first they have to overcome the problems they have faced so far this season. Although United's defence is not the strongest in the Premiership, I don't believe this is United's real problem.
As for Jaap Stam, if the proposed transfer does go through, this will surely be the craziest decision so far in the season. Jaap Stam was signed to United when there really were problems in the defence, and he seemed to solve them for sure. Jaap is the strength that United need, and gives the rest of the defense a certain confidence, backed up again by the superb capabilities of Fabien Barthez, who also seems to have a poor start to the season.
Lazio are, however, willing to pay £18m which will be a major boost to United's transfer funds, which must surely be running low after the summer breaks spending spree, and may give United the oportunity to employ more than one skillful defender.
Finally, at the moment we don't know who Fergie has lined up for the vacant space, but I quite fancy Lilian Thuram, the papers have said we've been interested in the player for some time, and he does have the skills United need and desire.
> easiest start in the premiership
From this comment I would like to make a comment of my own :-
You don't have a clue what you are on about.
Fulham, Blackburn and Villa is far from an easy start. Two of the teams are newly promoted and will be going all out to upset the champions and I was at Villa today and we look like a very strong team. Hardly the three worst teams in the league!
