actually the xbox wont be a better quality machine graphics wise , as in the gamecube they have a special processor running at 485 mhz on some kind of apple or mac system , while the xbox runs on 733+ mhz pentium 3 processor which as many of us know isn't too quick as the pentium chips are really slow and crash alot. and microsoft stating that xbox can display 500 million polygons simultaneosly is rubbish , in the n64 mag (who are not biased like nom !!) their latest issue came with a free gamecube guide it told you all about the specs and all that . gamecube 12-13 million polygons is alot more realistic than the 500 million.

heres a direct copy of what it says in the book :

"Central Proccesor

ARCHITECTURE
The structure of the copper Gekko chip is based around PowerPC architecture. Since this architecture is used in Macintosh computers, some idle speculators hypothesised a connection between Apple and Nintendo- but this has no basis in fact, apart from the fact that very early developement tools ran on G4 Macs and Gamecube is roughly cube shaped like Apples G4 cube. However, the powerPC technoligy is not exclusive to Apple. As any Mac user will tell you, the system is far more efficient than the Pentium technology employed by PC's and Xbox. As a fringe benefit, since the chip is copper it dosen't need a hugely noisy cooling fan, such as you'll hear on other next-gen platforms.

WHO MADE IT?
From their WWll punched-card readers to forging the entire PC market, IBM have consistently proven themselves as inovator. Which is why Nintendo signed a $1 billion contract with IBM to produce the chip. They seem to be doing phenomenely well, so far- while PS2 manufacture suffers from hardware shortages exacerbrated by natural catastrophies in south east asia, IBM's Stateside facility in Burlington, Vermont has been churning out it's tiny proccessors at such a rate that they can even afford to give them away to the American press...

TELL ME MORE
The chip is a 485mhz copper chip, where data has to travel only 0.18 micron. A single micron is approxiamately a hundredth the width of a human hair, so thats not very far. It's a robust, efficient chip which will out perform Xbox's flabby 733mhz Pentium 3 chip. you'll never see the chip itself as it's tucked away inside and is smaller than a c- Button on an N64 controller.

GPRAHICS
For many years, games companies have used the number of onscreen polygons as a measurement of their consoles power. In the last year or more, Microsoft and Sony have taken this misguided absurdity to new levels, with Microsoft at one point claiming their Xbox could happily push 500 million polygons per second. This number is gibberish since it has no bearing on actual in-game graphic. In fact, the number is much closer to Gamecube's realistic 20 million with all in game effects applied. The footage from spaceworld 2000 featured only 6-12 million, and even the best PS2 games don't come near that. Xbox and Gamecube games will be comparable in graphics terms, since the Flipper chip has geometry calculation built in, which allows the central Gekko proccessor to concentrate on game effects, AI and so on."

if you want even more n this lot just buy n64 mag issue 59.
it tells yu why raven blade was cancelled and stuff like that.

GameCube but I am very dissopointed with Nintendo's Zelda, Its all cartoony and it dosen't appeal to me.

The video I saw was link and Gandorff (sp?) Battiling and the graphics on that were superb. If that was the only reason to get a GameCube then that was going to be it. But now im weary.

I will let them battle it out for a bit (nintendo and microsoft) and see which one is victorious!

Well seing as you posted this in the Nintendo forum your gonna get a preety biased view about the Cube. But anyway I would go for the Cube, its got bigger games companys backing it, its cheaper, its made by Nintendo so you can gurantee some top class games (perfect dark 2 anyone) and the main reason you should get is because the Xbox is made by Microsoft one of the most boring companys on the planet.

I would go for a GameCube - Im pretty sure it will have the best games and with Nintendo's experience it may be too much for X-Box!!

I would also have to say the GameCube, firstly as you say it will have better games, now thats the only reason why you buy consoles, not because of their graphics so you answered your own question, would you rather play on poor games in good quality graphics or excellent games on just a little less quality (or the same, I don't know)?
It will also be cheaper.

As for the GameCube costing £139.99, it probably won't cost that, that is just around the convereted price from Japan and America, as stuff over here is more expensive it will probably cost about £199.99.
