I’m likely to be on my own here, but I was a little disappointed with the end of the ‘MGS2’ demo that came with ‘Z.O.E.’ I understand pregnant women are a reality – even in the armed forces. But do I want to shoot such images? It’s a little bizarre. The original ‘Metal Gear’ contained patronising dialogue between Snakie and the rest of the female characters. And ‘Ring of Red’ (which I’m kinda enjoying) displays a terrible respect for the female form.
Look, you buy a game like ‘Dead or Alive 2’ and you get what you see. It does exactly what it says on the tin.
This is /not/ a GaD entry…
I’m just having a rant!
ARRRRGGHHHH they do me head in!!!!!!

Keep it in context, though. I haven't played the demo for a while, but if I recall correctly, Snake doesn't *know* that she's pregnant when he kills her.
Even if I'm wrong and he does, then there's still a context - if some nutty woman was shooting at me, I'd damn well shoot back!
It's also part of the emotional context of the game, too. You can clearly see in the final scenes that Snake is not happy with having killed a woman - whether he knew she was pregnant or not.
So if Konami bring out games in which women are portrayed as being treated like dirt, I can't take issue with that either. Games aren't there to mimic real life, they are there to mimic fantasy scenarios in which we can fool around and live out our dreams. Most of all we are there to have fun.
Metal Gear Solid isn't actually a good example. Although Snake didn't show Meryl and Mei Ling the greatest of respect, he was a hardened warrior, not a gentleman, and Konami did actually portray Snake's and Meryl's relationship as a close and meaningful one towards the end of the game.
Unless you did the Otacon ending, in which case he had a close and meaningful relationship with him instead. Go figure, those whacky Japanese programmers eh?
Anyway, I thought women liked being treated like that?

Used to be 6pm but I think it's after midnight at the moment.
i might be wrong... never pay attention to the list myself!
