Gameboy Advance

Well Lets first look at The Gameboy System its Self.

The Gameboy Advance will cost you £79.99 - £89.99 depends if you want to shop around. I bought mine from Electronic Boutique THIS IS AS I DID NOT KNOW HOW GOOD SPECIAL RESERVE IS!!!

The size of the system is really good and fits neatly in your hands. The size is:

Size (mm)
82mm(L) x 144.5(W) x 24.5mm (D)
Size (mm)

This is just a tiny bit bigger than your old Gameboy Coulor. It is much smaller than the Game Gear as the Gamboy Advance’s critics have said it is going to be like the Game Gear.

Graphics
WOW! The graphics on this little machine are really good for its size and cost. The power comes from a 32-Bit ARM with embedded memory CPU. Which is fairly good considering its size. The graphics engine can reach Mode 7 graphics, the Playstation games are mode 10 so Gameboy Advnce is not to far away. The Gameboy Colour has a 8-bit Z80 CPU.

Screen
The screen its self has only 2 problems. Number 1, The screen is really dark and the light has to be in the right places otherwise some of the games will be really hard to see and play. Problem 2 The Gambeoy Advance screen is really easy to scratch so Nintendo should really introduce some replaceable screens. But any way that’s enough of the bad lets talk about the good.

The screen is 2.9" TFT reflective screen which is bigger than the previous version. The screen displays some excellent colours and can show 511 colours at one time. There are 32,768 possible colors and all these can be shown in the Bitmap mode. The screen resolution is 240x160 which is just like when I play Red Alert 2 on my old Computer.

Sound
The sound on this machine is excellent. There are even vocals in games. Like in Mario and Konami Krazy Racers. The sound goes really loud and is clear.

Other-Bits of interest.
The Gameboy Advance runs on 2 AA batteries which supposedly last for 20 hours the last about 15 on my count. The games are all in cartridge mode as well.

Now the best Bit the GAMES!!!
There were 12 original launch titles with Tony Hawk 2 and Mario Advance in there. So far I have bought 5 games for my Gameboy Advance these are Tony Hawk 2, Mario Advance, GT Championship, Konami Krazy Racers and Bomberman Tournament.

Launch Titles

Army Men Advance.
Chu Chu Rocket!
F-Zero: Maximum Velocity
GT Advance
Iridion 3D
Kuru Kurur Kururin
Rayman Advance
Ready2Rumble 2
Super Mario Advance
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2
Top Gear GT

In Brief 2 games

*Tony Hawk 2*

Although the game has Been shrunk down a lot! The game is still pretty like the PSX and DC version apart from the visual awe of flying high. The sound is not as good as the PSX version but the music is still extremely good. Here are some of the features of the game.

6 Levels:
There are 6 levels which are all visually stunning. There Hanger, School, Marseilles, Warehouse, New York, Skate Street. The here is another one but it will takes ages to get. You have to complete the game 100% with all the characters. The are plenty of Half-pipes and Quarter-pipes to make you happy for weeks.

Cash:
To buy better stats and new boards and tricks you have to earn money by completing tasks. There are plenty of objectives to keep you having money. Be it from winning competions to doing a nosegrind over a pipe.

Collectible Items:
On some of the levels there are Collectible Items this could be letters to collect the word S-K-A-T-E or spray cans. There is also spare cash floating about some where. These however can be tricky to get as it is a pain lining up you character.

Characters:
There are 13 Characters all in all each one has its own characteristics. Tony Hawk is one of the best people to get Air has he is a Vert Skater while Kareem Cambell is a much better at grinds because he is a street skater. Tony Hawk is the only skater to do the 900 while Kareem Cambell is the only who can do Ghetto Bird. Unless you modify there tricks.

The graphics are really good as they are 3D the view is Top Down and you see the pure power of the GBA. The sound is also cool and you often hear the bones crush as you crash you skater.

*Konami Krazy Racers*

I have to open on this line Konami Krazy Racers is a Mario Kart clone, but how ever an extremly good Mario Kart clone indeed. Mario has dominated the Go-Karting scene for years now and Konami Krazy Racers has finally broken it as no one else has tried to take on Nintendo. The game itself plays just the same has a Mario Kart game but with the Characters from Konami games. The ones you would most know are the Ninga from Metal gear solid and the Dracula from Castlevania. Wow I hear you all say.

Characters.
There are 4 weight Divisions each one with there own characteristics. There are 12 characters in all and there are 4 hidden ones this means there are 16 characters. I have opened up 3 of the hidden characters.

The graphics and sound in this game are superb. They are almost as good as Playstation. There is also a song when you turn on the game and you get a song with lyrics. Which go Wai-Wai-Wai racing which was its Japanese launch title name.

~#Updated#~

Well one of the reasons why the Gameboy Advance is so popular is because that it has no competion, There is:

Game.com
GameBoy
GameBoy Color
Neo-Geo Pocket Color
WonderSwan
WonderSwan Color
GameGear
Lynx
Microvision
Neo-Geo Pocket
Portable Misc
Vectrex
VirtualBoy.

And I think you will have to agree there is not much competion there. There is not even that much in development. The only other system in development is a South Korean system called GSP 32/64. This has good potential but I don’t think people will let the game shine. It can download 7 – 10 mins of video and sound. It had a 64 bit processor in it which only shows half the amount of colours a Gameboy Advance can show. Another problem with this system is the lack of games and no real character to boost sails. I think this system will fail……In actual fact but you 10 pounds it will.

The only released system to challenge the Gameboy Advance would be the game.com. you can find a link under http://www.gamefaqs.com. This system had some great game titles like I think the GSP will do is that it wont make it to England or America. It has games like Duke Nukem and Resident Evil 2 but only has a puny 8 bit Graphics engine. So resulting graphics are bad. It could connect to the Internet however but could not display pictures. The system used 4 AA batteries and used them even quicker than a Game Gear.

So is portable Gaming doomed to be in the Hands of Nintendo? And is the Gameboy Advance a Great little toy Or a FAD……Come back in 5 years for the answer!!!

F-Zero is like that, it is a difficult game which will take ages to complete every single mode with every single vehicle to get all of the cars, but 1st and foremost, it's a good game, and addictive!

I've taken my GBA on the bus while this other kid had his GBC and everyone came other me.....but its annoying when you have that certain kid who had bad breath staring down your neck.

Tony Hawks is cool and you have to get 100% on all characters to get the cheats which is the completion of the game.

i think the GBA is cool becase of the technoligy but the whole gameboy series is a FAD. i mean who really takes there GBA out of there house and plays with it everywhere? ive not seen anybody yet. most people just buy them and play them at home. you might iswell get a playstation for cheaper.

i did once take my game boy colour out of the house. it was when it had just been relesed. i bought a bus ticket to town for no reason and sat on a seat. then out of my pocket came a GBC and i started playing, putting up the volume so everybody notices (it was that annoying marioda da da noise). suddenly peopleed crowding me, it was pretty cool. then everybody crowded me as i played on my gameboy and it ended up being a riot1 "get out my way" "your blocking my view" "take this SMACK". when i reached my destination i instantly got a ticket back home and started playing on my GBC in fron of everybody. this time there were less people gathering around me. true story.

that was the last time i took my gameboy out the house as some foolish person on the bus tried to snatch and run when the bus was moving. what a jerk, what was he going to do? jump out the window1 everybody helped get my GBC back. that guy got thrown off the bus.
