What makes a FPS cool? its guns man! I make a list of my favourite guns of all time. Add some more if you feel.

10.) The Snark Gun in Half Life
Its one of the collest weapons out there that fires living things! Those snarks can take the down the toughest of enemies!
09.) The GES Biorifle in Unreal Tournament
A mine laying gun! It is some fun when you make a layer of bio-slug on water surface underneath which lies you enemy.
08.) Lightsaber in Jedi Knight II
The cooolest weapon in an FPS ever.
07) Rail Gun in Q3A
One shot kill weaapon and perhaps the most famous in Q3A
06.) BFG 10K In Quake II
BFG stands for the Big, Fu... err Freakin' Gun! Vaporises everything in its path.
05.) Shrink Ray in Duke Nukem 3D
Honey I shrunk the enemies!
04.) AWM in Counter-Strike
Number 1 gun for all your camping needs!
03.) Redeemer in Unreal Tournament
The most powerfull weapon in Unreal tournament, said to be a thermonuclear device.
02.) Flame Thrower in Return to Castle Wolfenstein
How do you want your enemies - crisp or rare?
01.) SBC Cannon in Serious Sam
The most innovative weapon. It is like bowling with human pins!

The only good thing that ever came from Turok was the cerebral bore.

Redeemer. Oh yeah.

Also, that big gun in Red Faction. It was the largest, but I can't remeber its damn name.

The MP40 in MOH was great, better than the Thompson. I rarely used the German guns while playing the CoD demo, never really needed to. Except for the earlier mentioned fully automatic sniper rifle... that rocked.

The M1 carbine in CoD is great (though I've only played the demo, still waiting for the game to arrive) and I preferred it to the other weapons on that level (except maybe that fully automatic sniper rifle... that rocked)

True, that's the downside of the gun but I still like it, it's such a powerful weapon and it's sort of like a machine gun, it works long range and up close something the M1 Carbine can't do, since you have to wait a couple of seconds before you can shoot again. Ammo wise, a round rarely lasts long enough for you to run out of ammo (I'm talking about multiplayer here) and you can always pick some more ammo up.
