But you were right, it was utter crud. Graphically very pretty, but lacking in gameplay with awkward conrtrols.
So anyway, I took it back on Boxing Day and swapped it for...
(Drum roll please...)
Need For Speed Underground (Xbox version, obviously).
And it's absolutely brilliant.
While I was there, I also picked up the smaller S controller, which I have to say is FAR more comfortable than the original wrist-breaker.
Altogether it adds up to the best experience I've had since owning the Xbox, and the machine has only been off when I've needed to sleep!
Who said EA don't make decent games? LIARS!
NFSU is a case of style of substance really. I found it average.
Just think how much you'd have loved NFS:U if it was PS2 exclusive, aye?
It must be the controller wot dun it.
Played the game in GAME and it annoyed me no end.
It is a very similar game, but you can at least control the car during a crash in NFS:U - I don't know if you can in Burnout 2, but you couldn't in the original.
When NFS:U switches to the slo-mo coverage of the accidents, you can try to correct spins etc and keep going, rather than having to start from a standstill.
Aside from the music, NFS:U isn't any more glamourous or flashy than any other racing game? A rendered intro which is pretty much the norm, and some entertaining race modes.
You can mod your car visually, which - although useless over all - at least allows you to make it a little more personal than driving what you're given.
I quite like the Drag Race sections and sprint races.
The only quibble I have is that - with the customisation options - they really should have included a replay mode. You never really get to see your ride in action, other than the crash/jump cameras. And they're over too quickly.
