We've all had dreams that continue, I'm sure. Whether it's in the same night after waking up to go to the loo, or a few nights later - it nothing particularly unusual as far as I know.
But last night, I had a dream continue after FIVE YEARS!
Consciously, I'd completely forgotten about the original dream. I only know *when* I had the original dream because it was just after a fairly traumatic event in my life - it was October 1996.
I had this dream where I was out cycling in an area of Northampton that I hadn't visited before - it wasn't a 'real' location in Northampton... it only existed in the dream. There was a row of houses to my left, and I was on a small gravel path which turned off to the right, and up a large hill, at the top of which was a factory.
As I started to cycle up the hill, I heard a yell from one of the houses, and went to investigate. A guy had been working in his garden and had an accident, damaging his back. his wife was out shopping, and I called an ambulance on my mobile.
That was the extent of the first dream.
A few nights later, I had a 'follow-on' dream; it was a few days later in 'dream time' as well, and I'd gone back to see how the guy was doing. We chatted for some time, and then I woke up.
That was the last thing that happened, and the last time I had any dream in that setting.
Until last night.
Last night, I dreamed that I was in that area again, but without my bike. I decided to see if the guy still lived there, and he did. The thing was, the dream world had actually move on 5 years, too. The guy was okay, but his back still hurt; he'd aged 5 years, finished the work he was doing when he had the accident, and he remembered me and thanked me again for helping him. We chatted for some time - though I can't recall what it was about - and then I left.
At that point I woke up, and once I realised, I was quite stunned - and I still can't quite get my head around it. Five years and a 'forgotten' dream suddenly coming back to the surface. In my view, it proves that you never truly forget anything - it's always there, just waiting for the right cue to bring it back out. I have no idea what brought this back out, but it's certainly made a lasting impression on me.
Has anyone else ever had a similarly large gap between related dreams? Does anyone here know anything about dream analysis and what this could all be about?
Grateful for any info/input!
> That's very interesting. Thank you for that information.
Pleasure.
Has anyone ever had it when in a dream you've

I can explain that being the mind expert I am. (No seriously I know a lot about dreaming and the sub-concious mind)
That instance happens right at the beginning of an R.E.M cycle. Just as you're about to fall into a deep sleep and go farther into a dream your body suddenly and very violently, twitches.
It happens because, like you said, you dream you are falling and seeing as you've only just entered R.E.M not all of your muscles have shut down so they make a reflex action which is the twitch.
Why is it that when you are 'in a dream' ridiculous things seem to make perfect sense?
I have no idea, but strangely enough, they do! When you're in the dream you always think that they make perfect sense, and then you wake up and think, "What?!"

The stupid thing was though, the Final was taking place on the upper deck of a double-decker bus, and the ball was a scraggy tennis ball.

Until about 3 years ago, whenever I was asked if I dreamed in colour, I could never be 100% sure.
Then, over a 3-week period, I had a series of unconnected but horrific dreams, all of which were in glorious (or should that be 'gorious'?) full colour, and ever since, I've been sure.
I don't know what prompted the dreams, but they were more gory than any horror film I've ever seen, and while they didn't actually scare me, for a while I was a little worried about the way my mind was working.
Now, I can only remember one of the dreams in any detail - and they haven't recurred since. Bit of a harsh way to discover you dream in colour, if you ask me!
