Pirate games rule.

The only problem I see is that there aren't enough of them.

I believe that we all need more pirate games, as they're great fun.

Honestly, how many pirate games have you got?

I haven't got any, but I sure wish I did!

Those Monkey Island games look great fun, and apparently 'Pirates!' on the NES, and other platforms was great fun, but we haven't really had anything build on this genre.

I remember playing a game called "Pirates Gold" or something on the Megadrive, and it was quite fun, you had to land you pirate ship at various ports to buy supplies, and you could land on islands to look for treasure. You also got into a few turn based pirate ship battles, and you could plunder the boats if you won.

I really think that the latest consoles would be an ideal platform to produce a truelly outstanding Pirate game. Imagine real time sea battles, firing cannons fo weaken a boat, get close, then board it. Fight with your cutlass against the captain of a rival ship, and steal their treasure. Deal with mutiny, survive scurvy, lose a hand, get a hook as a replacment. Best of all would be looking for treasure on the islands.

Ah pirate games would rule.

Question: Why are there so few games that feature pirates, and why are there so few Western games?

Skies of Arcadia released this year on the Dreamcast is a 30-40 RPG based soley on pirates.

Wasn't there a western called Gunman Chronicles for the PC or was that just an Unreal Tournament clone in the end?

I agree, more of both are required, westerns in particular, clearly there are not enough.

Watch out for forthcoming releases from Swordspines:

Pirates? Does anyone remember Pirates the game on the Amiga?

It was a bit like Colonization on the Amiga, which in turn is a bit like Civilization on the PC... and Amiga.

I was just about to say NO! Pirate games are bad. But then I clicked on, the penny dropped.

Pirates are cool, I love them. :D

Does this mean Meka has turned to the Sony side so that he can buy "Escape from Monkey Island" and "Pirates of Skull Cove"?

Heh,

The only western game that was any good was Kane, an old Mastertronic game from the CBM64/Spectrum era. There's a Half Life western mod, but it sucks. The only good bit is the training; Blowing chickens away with a Buffalo rifle.

Overboard! for the PS was quite a fun Pirate game to play. I have to agree, Pirate games would be superb, walking around going 'Arrgh matey' a lot and occasionally starting fights in Port Royal with Flintlock pistols would be ace.

You know you love pirate stuff Goatboy.
