After all, it is expected that games will be more and more influenced by films- a far more well established medium that has had millions invested in evolving the ulimate emotion-making productions and special effects.
But who would predict the reverse being true?
Games influencing the cinema! Beginning with the hillarious Toy Story. CG characters performing acts impossible to produce in real life. Then there was Antz and Toy Story 2. Most recently, Shrek has been a success. A good thing for games? Well... their is a dark side...
It's all very well when game TECHNIQUES are used in films. They are used to good effect. But what about when games are turned into films? Mario Brothers, Mortal Combat, Street fighter? All flops. And recently Final Fantasy has been more daring than ever- game techniques and game style story lines. Again disaster! The only remotely successful game plot in a film has been Tomb Raider... and let's be honest, it's the teenybop band of the film industry. Aimed at kids and completely without use.
More "serious" plots are looking more credible. The currently in production Resident Evil pits a young woman on a island of zombies in a complex storyline which unfolds at increasing pace. "Oozes cult appeal" as one mag puts it.
But still... films in games=good. Games in films=bad. Maybe games just aren't well established enough?
